Overview

Lead Product Designer role at American Rheinmetall Vehicles. Location: Sterling Heights, MI. The role focuses on leading design efforts for military combat vehicle subsystems, with responsibility for design, development, and integration, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities

Manage designs using CAD software per project requirements/specifications. Create 3D components (parts and assemblies), including Model Based Definition (MBD) elements and metadata. Create 2D drawings (single components, sub-system installations and top-level exploded drawings). Understand and manage multiple sub-system designs. Create and manage core standards and procedures related to the creation, release, and revision of CAD models and drawings. Provide CAD process support and training across the design team to improve internal standards, customer standards, and specifications to meet program requirements. Participate in process improvement for design responsibilities (CAD fundamentals, data management, design/engineering, etc.). Conduct packaging, feasibility, and kinematic studies. Maintain CAD data management knowledge including Part Numbering, Revision History, Engineering Change Requests, and Configuration Management. Reverse engineering and design capabilities including dimensional stack-ups defining fit and function. Troubleshoot design issues related to manufacturing, quality, and sub-system requirements. Apply ASME MBD standards (Y14.4X-XX), ASME Engineering Drawing Practices (Y14.100), and relevant ISO dimensioning and tolerancing principles (Y14.5-XXX). Support and adhere to safety and environmental regulations and policies. Lead design reviews and customer meetings; report, track, and resolve open issues within a sub-system design team. Provide technical support to internal and external customers; prepare/present project design status for multiple sub-systems. Create, manage, and communicate BOM structure/requirements with project team members. Manage multiple tasks across projects with proper prioritization; ensure on-time delivery of sub-system design releases. Support concurrent engineering, procurement, and prototype build/integration activities with technical assistance. Utilize Microsoft Office suite effectively. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of systems-based design and related standards/processes. Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders. Familiarity with US DoD ground vehicle requirements and DoD vehicle development processes. Familiarity with US Army TACOM/TARDEC organizations. Practical hands-on approach; ability to operate independently. Currently holds or has the ability to obtain SECRET US Defense clearance. Knowledge of Military Standards and regulations; 3D printing and material properties knowledge. Strong communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts clearly and work with diverse teams. Willingness to engage with overseas colleagues to enable performance; promote collaboration and teamwork; maintain integrity and respect. Excellent listening and analytical skills; ability to respond to customer needs promptly. Motivation and ability to manage performance and communicate goals and strategies effectively. Education

AS in Product Design (e.g., Mechanical, Structural, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive) or equivalent Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience

10+ years of product design and development experience in US Defense programs 15+ years of experience with PTC Creo Parametric preferred; proficiency in other MCAD tools (UG/NX, SolidWorks, CATIA) considered Experience in a multi-national, multi-organizational environment; experience with engineering and supply chain management in a regulated industry Background Prerequisites

Background checks, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing as required Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance if the position requires it Preferred Qualifications

B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Management) or equivalent work experience Ability to speak German is a plus Other notes: This role is positioned within American Rheinmetall Vehicles in Michigan and focuses on high-technology defense vehicle design and development.
