Purpose: Provide leadership under the direction of Library Media Services to ensure all students are effective users of ideas and information. Supervise and manage the school library/media center and programs. Offer services and resources that develop students' skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems (21st-century skills). Engage learners through print and digital resources to access, create, and share content, collaborating as global citizens. Serve as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to fully integrate the library/media center into instructional programs. Must have proficiency in engaging learners with diverse instructional strategies.
Major Responsibilities:
Use the TEKs/SEs and library curriculum products to provide instruction and guidance to students in resource location and research techniques.
Develop strategic plans to meet Texas Library Program Standards and Guidelines.
Participate as an educational leader and partner in curriculum development at campus and district levels, consulting with teachers on material use and scheduling.
Model and promote collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction based on learners’ needs and standards.
Promote ethical use of resources, instruct students on information evaluation, and model conduct and integrity in using digital and print resources.
Provide ongoing learning opportunities that foster active participation and engagement, especially in technology and information literacy.
Supervise Media Assistant(s), student aides, and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
Offer instructional access through flexible scheduling, creating a conducive learning environment.
Maintain a balanced, current, and relevant collection of resources aligned with district policies.
Perform library management operations like budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, supervising staff and volunteers, reporting, grant writing, and overseeing circulation and inventory.
Encourage high circulation, including inter-library loans to extend access beyond the campus and instructional hours.
Support academic rigor by teaching research and information processing skills, fostering creativity and innovation.
Collaborate with community and libraries to promote shared goals.
Enforce discipline policies and support students' right to freely select materials.
Engage with students to promote positive attitudes toward reading and the library program.
Stay informed about student and staff information culture and incorporate this into the library program.
Communicate effectively through various means and comply with laws, policies, and standards.
Continuously evaluate and improve the library/media program based on data.
Engage in professional development and maintain active memberships in professional organizations.
Perform administrative tasks to keep the library functioning properly and perform other duties as assigned.
Ensure compliance with federal funding reporting requirements.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.
Work Environment: The environment is typically moderate in noise. Travel within the district is required. Remote work is not an option as regular attendance at the worksite is essential.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution with valid Texas Library certification; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of two years as a qualified teacher; bilingual skills are a plus.
Knowledge of library and information science.
Ability to instruct and manage students effectively.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility and willingness to stay current with professional developments.
Salary is based on the Board-approved instructional salary schedule.
