Overview Purpose:

The Telecommunications Technician 2 is responsible for planning, layout, and complete installation of new commercial and retrofit communications equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. The candidate must have extensive experience with the installation, termination, and testing of Structured Cable Plant in commercial environments. Hospital or Airport installs will be a plus. Responsibilities: Install video and data cable with Cat 5E, Cat 6, and fiber cable. Terminate and test horizontal copper (Cat 5, Cat 6). Terminate fiber and riser cable. Install patch panels, label, and test horizontal cable. Install backbone and riser cable (copper & fiber). Install interior conduit, Panduit, and Wiremold. Read and understand plans and specifications. Install plywood, racks, cable trays, and related infrastructure. Mentor apprentices and assist in OSP installations. Pull cables, install prefab assemblies, and assist in grounding and pulling all sizes of telecom cables. Participate in job site cleanup and maintain a clean work area. Install Wiremold, sleeves, Panduit, ENT, pull and junction boxes, and assist with large wire pulls using certified Tugger setup. Calculate wire load and conduit sizing, assist with underground and overhead raceways layouts, and grounding systems. Handle splicing, termination, and knowledge of fiber connectors and cables. Provide own hand tools; train and supervise apprentices; focus on safety, quality, and schedule adherence. Adhere to PPE requirements and maintain a safe work environment. Qualifications: 4+ years in commercial communications or 2-3 years with an Associate degree. Valid driver's license and experience with room build-outs, Cat6, fiber termination, and interpreting drawings. Familiarity with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office, and BICSI guidelines. Abilities: Lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds; work at heights up to 60 feet; climb ladders and scaffolds. Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching overhead. Good vision (corrected), color vision, hearing, and communication skills. Recognize problems, apply rules to solve issues, and understand detailed instructions.
