Overview
The
Manager, Public Affairs
plays a critical role in advancing Novant Health’s mission to improve the health of communities, one person at a time. This role will help position Novant Health as a
trusted, mission-driven, and solutions-oriented health system
through strategic public affairs, government relations, and communications initiatives. Reporting to the
VP, Public Affairs , this individual will develop and implement integrated public affairs campaigns, craft compelling policy-driven messaging, and build strategic relationships with key stakeholders—including elected officials, policymakers, media, trade associations, and community partners. Location:
Preference for candidates based in the Raleigh–Triangle area; remote work options available for the right candidate. What You’ll Do
Develop and execute
strategic public affairs, communications, and issue campaigns
that amplify Novant Health’s priorities and support our government relations strategy. Design and implement
integrated public affairs plans
that position Novant Health’s policy messages with key audiences such as elected officials, policymakers, media, trade associations, and consumers. Serve as a
strategic advisor and collaborator , aligning messaging and initiatives across departments including communications, marketing, government relations, regulatory affairs, and community engagement. Monitor
developments in public policy
and identify opportunities to elevate Novant Health’s thought leadership—through speaking engagements, media opportunities, and participation in public forums and industry events. Develop and maintain
strategic relationships
with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and consistent positioning across all public venues. Contribute to the overall
public affairs strategy , helping shape Novant Health’s external reputation as a leader in healthcare innovation, equity, and advocacy. What We’re Looking For
5+ years of experience
in political campaigns, corporate public affairs, government relations, or strategic communications. Proven success in developing and implementing communication strategies that build and maintain organizational reputation within
public policy or advocacy spaces . Exceptional writing, presentation, and analytical skills , with the ability to communicate complex ideas both strategically and creatively under tight deadlines. Strong
project management skills , including managing multiple priorities, leading teams, and delivering high-quality outcomes with clarity and precision. Demonstrated experience
building and leading stakeholder engagement strategies
with government officials, media, and community leaders. A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to navigate complex organizational structures and influence outcomes through relationship-building and strategic insight. Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred. Experience: Five years experience in government affairs, political or issue campaigns, and communications/public relations/public affairs strongly preferred. Additional Skills (required):
Strong understanding of the political, legislative, and campaign arenas, including strategies for developing effective messaging and relationships. Understanding of traditional and new media tactics, including social media, and ability to utilize in strategy implementation. Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills with the ability to create team culture that enables organization’s mission, vision and values Exceptional written and oral communications skills with demonstrated ability to make the complex simple for a variety of audiences. Self-managed to use initiative and time management to prioritize work and deliver results. Strong organizational and project management skills, including management of system-wide groups in complex matters. Professional demeanor and presence, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
