Instructional Designer & Technology Specialist . The Instructional Designer & Technology Specialist (IDTS) assists and supports HC instructors in developing courses across all delivery formats and is a key member of the eLearning & Faculty Development team. This position reports to the Director of eLearning & Faculty Development. The primary responsibility of the IDTS and the eLearning team is to assist instructors in incorporating quality course design and educational technologies in teaching and learning across HC and beyond. Additional responsibilities include close collaboration and support to the Director of eLearning & Faculty Development to provide professional development opportunities and trainings amplifying teaching and learning for faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent must have a strong commitment to creating a vibrant and welcoming culture that recognizes, values and respects diversity. Responsibilities
Works autonomously with subject matter experts and identifies target audience learning needs to create engaging and accessible learning activities and course content that enhance the learning experience. Apply instructional design and adult learning theories, practice, and methods. Leverage innovative instructional design methods to create engaging, outcome-driven, and proactive learning experiences. Align course design, content, and assessments with instructional outcomes. Collaborate with instructors to determine the criteria used to judge learner's performance and develop assessment instruments. Collaborate with the team identified to develop online learning rubric/process aligned with MUS Principles of Quality. Collaborate to create an evaluation rubric/process for online/blended/hyflex/virtual courses. Assist Division Directors to evaluate online/blended/hyflex/virtual courses and provide recommendations for improvements. Remain current with best practices and emerging trends in online course and program design. Stay abreast on emerging literature, research, and approaches on teaching and learning; networks locally and nationally with other online teaching and learning organizations at the higher education level. Develop, achieve, and maintain high quality technology integration into teaching and learning throughout all educational settings to support instructors in enhancing instruction, improve student performance, and assist students in becoming technologically savvy. Provide educational technology training and coordination for faculty and support staff members to achieve instructional technology integration. Provide training and consultation of course design and development as well as ongoing support of best practices for online pedagogy. Partner and collaborate with various institutional programs and departments to provide professional development opportunities in support of practices centered on student learning and success. Facilitate ongoing access to professional development opportunities to faculty and staff to increase awareness and knowledge around online teaching and learning. Work with Director of eLearning & Faculty Development to coordinate and facilitate a variety of workshops and/or trainings designed to improve the use of technology-enhanced teaching and learning methods, to increase innovative instruction and support "high intentional" practices centered on student engagement and success in online, blended, hyflex and virtual classroom environments. Create supporting tutorial materials/medias (written, audio, video, animated, etc.) that are accessible and represent diverse perspectives. Organize, create and maintain project documentation and procedural manuals. Demonstrate an independent work ethic and ability to work individually and as part of a team on multiple tasks in a time-driven environment. Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to students, staff and faculty. Ability to creatively translate abstract concepts into effective visual and interactive forms in a variety of media. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Possess a bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or related field and at least one to two years of relevant experience (e.g., instructional design, curriculum design, educational technology, online education, adult learning, higher education) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching, preferably online and in higher education. Experience in project management and in designing and delivering training, preferably for adult learners. Demonstrate strong attention to detail, with thoughtful and strategic planning and analysis. Able to plan, organize and execute assigned tasks with precision and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to manage priorities and deliver results without the need for frequent reminders. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in all aspects of the role. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently plan, develop, and execute projects from start to finish with minimal supervision. Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills. Preferred
Master's degree in Education, Educational or Instructional Technology, Curriculum Development or relevant field or combination of teaching experience in higher education. Experience in designing and developing engaging learning materials, including online courses/modules/assessments and training programs, by collaborating with subject matter experts and using instructional design principles. Experience in designing and developing curricula for online academic programs, including curriculum blueprints, course outlines and content mapping. Demonstrable experience in developing and teaching within a learning management system (currently Canvas). Experience with web-conferencing tools (e.g. Teams, Zoom, Adobe Connect, WebEx or GoToMeeting), screen-capturing tools, mobile apps, One Drive/Google Drive tools, open educational resources, and other emerging educational technologies. Experience with Smart Technologies, multimedia software, interactive video production (e.g. Canvas Studio, Adobe Creative Suite). Experience with Montana University System policies and procedures, particularly in relation to online education and curriculum design. High level of skill and experience using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Office. Experience applying the principles of Adult Learning Theory, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Learning Styles. Experience creating ADA and 508 compliant content. Work Schedule
Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm schedule. Hours and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the program. Benefits
