Archaeological Field Director

Overview
Stantec is currently recruiting for a part-time on-call Archaeological Field Director to work out of our Central Pennsylvania office and potentially on future projects throughout the country. The successful candidate should be located within normal commuting distance of our New Cumberland, Pennsylvania office.
Responsibilities
Direct data management prior to cultural resource projects
Direct cultural resource projects in the field and laboratory
Organize fieldwork
Manage inventory, processing, and curation of archaeological materials
Direct archival background research
Write technical reports and historic background summaries
Survey transects up to fifteen miles in length on a daily basis
Recordation and delineation of archaeological sites
Completion of archaeological site forms, site sketches, profiles, logs, and other paperwork
Excavation of shovel test pits, test units, trenches, or other excavation as needed
Identification and description of soil profiles, horizons, artifacts, and cultural features
Artifact organization, processing, and inventory
Must meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Archaeology.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent written, oral, and computer skills
Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Periodic travel required, including international travel
The candidate must be able to work in project locations remote from their home office for extended time periods. Such remote deployments may recur with as little as three calendar days intervening between deployments.
Must possess a valid Real ID driver’s license with a clean record
Drug screen required for position
Education and Experience
Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field
Completion of an archaeological field school and a minimum of one year of professional archaeological supervisory experience (no academic experience may fill this requirement)
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Experience in Mid-Atlantic archaeology preferred
Experience with cultural resources surveys on military installations preferred
Experience with completing archaeological forms and paperwork
Experience identifying soil horizons, cultural features, and artifacts
Experience with ArcGIS associated applications such as Survey123 and Field Maps
Experience in organizing and inventorying data
