A distinguished visual artist from South Carolina, Charles Edward Williams, has been selected to serve as the judge of the 53rd annual Mayfaire by-the-Lake Art Festival. Williams has created several highly praised series of works in oil that incorporate landscapes, including “Sun + Light,” which was on view at The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art (AGB) at Florida Southern University in 2018. The AGB hosts the Mayfaire festival, which began in 1971. It announced Williams’s selection Monday. 1-minute read

“Looking Back,” by Charles Edward Williams | from cewlandandsea.com/works “Charles is one of the art world’s fastest rising stars, and we are thrilled that … he is returning to Lakeland to judge Mayfaire,” AGB Chief Curator and Executive Director Alex Rich said in a press release. “Charles and his expertise for judging this year’s festival are guided not merely by his adept eye but also by his own talents and successes working across creative media, much like the wide array of artists who will showcase their work at Mayfaire.” A separate panel of jurors selects artists from around the country to exhibit at Mayfaire, where some of their works typically are for sale. They compete for cash awards for Best of Show as well as awards of excellence and awards of distinction. Last month the festival announced its featured art, “Swan’s Special Garden,” by Emma Holland.
