Job Summary: Assist Victim/Witness Specialist in providing Victim Witness services pursuant to Chapter 950 of Wisconsin Statues. Performs clerical duties such as filing, answering the phone and other general office duties. -Acts as department receptionist, greet victims/witnesses and the general public, answer questions. - Maintains telephone contact and/or written correspondence with victims and witnesses to inform them of case status, orient them to their rights and criminal justice procedures, and make referrals to appropriate community agencies according to standard policies, statutes, and procedures -Serves as an advocate for victims of crime and assists them through the court process. Assists them in preparing to testify. Listens to their questions; provides them information; and provides answers and support to questions. Explains to clients why they will be required to testify and provides information to them regarding what they can expect in court. -Responsible for data input from referrals into PROTECT from Law Enforcement agencies and all other agencies that refer cases for prosecution to this office as it relates to Victims and Witnesses. - Prepares initial contact information and processes and distributes daily office mail, including victim impact statements, victim request forms and restitution requests according to standard policies, statutes, and procedures. - Creates and maintains notations on case files and in PROTECT case management system concerning the rights victims wish to exercise. - Reviews files after court hearings to ensure the provision of appropriate victim/witness services. - Anticipates and resolves potential problems to ensure that witnesses appear in court. Reassures reluctant victims/witnesses when necessary. - Cancel Subpoenas for victims and witnesses for cases. - Files all Judgment of Convictions in appropriate files. Prepares and distributes dispositions on criminal, traffic, and juvenile cases. - Possess knowledge and understanding of Chapter 950 of Wisconsin Statutes. - Oversees and assumes responsibility for boxing, moving, and lifting heavy case file boxes of previous year(s). (Requests assistance as needed) -Update legal manuals as required for publications in the office. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements: -One year Vocational or two-year Associate Degree preferred in Office Assistant or Administrative Assistant. -Knowledge of the criminal justice system and courtroom procedures a plus. -One to two years related experience.
