Job Description - Seasonal Tax Examiner I (250006A1) Seasonal Tax Examiner I - (250006A1) Duties & Responsibilities (Contact Center)
Respond to taxpayer telephone inquiries received on DOR’s tax hotlines Provide taxpayers with technical assistance by explaining state tax laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Have strong computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Perform computer research by accessing taxpayers’ account information and complete all casework/paperwork in accordance with Departmental policy Preferred Qualifications

Strong analytical skills Ability to provide oral instructions over the telephone in a precise, understandable manner Effectively follow written and oral instructions Ability to gather information by examining records/documents and through tactful questioning of individuals Exercises Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information Prior experience working in a call center, or in the following fields: customer service, collections, and/or tax administration Respond to taxpayers’ telephone inquiries relating to correspondence received from The Department of Revenue Provide taxpayers with technical assistance by explaining tax laws, rules, regulations and policies Perform computer research by accessing taxpayers account information Correspond in writing to taxpayers to obtain necessary documentation needed to complete all case work/paperwork in accordance with Departmental policy Preferred Qualifications (Refund Fraud)

Regular attendance is essential. All applicants will be screened to ensure a history of adherence to the Commonwealth’s tax filing and remittance laws, and a criminal background search will be conducted. As employees of the Department of Revenue, candidates will be expected to adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct regarding personal income tax filing and the confidentiality of taxpayer information. Qualifications

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing or tax examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.* *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. Special Requirements
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License may be required Additional Information
