Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Lead Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux)
to provide operational leadership for both classified and unclassified IT environments. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise systems that support mission-essential operations. The successful candidate will deliver end-to-end IT support across system life cycles, infrastructure optimization, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity compliance. Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Infrastructure Support
Lead full life-cycle support, troubleshooting, design, maintenance, and system administration for classified/unclassified systems. Manage and maintain IT infrastructure, ensuring system availability, resiliency, capacity, and performance. Oversee incident, problem, change, and configuration management processes. Provide Helpdesk escalation support, installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and end-user support.
Systems Administration
Administer and maintain various Operating Systems including
UNIX/Linux (RedHat, RedHawk, HPUX, Solaris, AIX, OpenVMS, CentOS, RTOS)
and select Windows systems. Support multiple server hardware architectures:
VAX, ALPHA, SPARC, x86, PA-RISC, Concurrent . Configure and manage enterprise storage solutions including
SAN, NAS, storage controllers, and fiber fabric switches
(NetApp, Vast, Dell EMC, Synology, Quantum).
Backup & Disaster Recovery
Implement and support disaster recovery strategies to ensure continuity of critical systems. Manage hardware/software backup solutions including
tape jukebox, smart disk systems, Dell EMC Networker, Quantum, and Clonezilla . Maintain system images and ensure recoverability in compliance with mission requirements.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Apply security best practices, patching, and vulnerability management across systems. Support cybersecurity compliance frameworks and ensure secure system operations. Implement monitoring and detection methods aligned with evolving threat environments.
Documentation & Optimization
Maintain technical documentation for system configuration, troubleshooting, and procedures. Drive continuous improvement through performance tuning, operations optimization, and resource allocation strategies.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum six (6) years of professional experience in UNIX/Linux system administration, including: System backup and recovery. Software and security management. Hardware installation/configuration and COTS software integration. System sizing, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and resource allocation. Experience with TCP/IP and multiple network protocols. Knowledge of major network security tools, firewalls, vulnerabilities, attack methods, and detection techniques.
Certification:
IAM Level III certification (CISM, CISSP, or GSLC). Clearance:
Active Top Secret clearance required. Preferred:
