Swim Instructor (Basic, Intermediate & Advanced). Salary Range: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour. Ensure adequate safety procedures are in place for the class being taught. Communicate directions and corrections clearly and concisely. Maintain class control and discipline at all times. Be on pool deck at least five minutes before class, with equipment and roster ready for attendance. Do not leave the class area until all students have left or safety has been transferred to a lifeguard with transfer confirmed on the deck. Develop lesson plans for each class; provide practical lesson plans for substitutes (substitute slip to be completed and signed for all missed classes). Evaluate stroke technique; keep skill sheets, progress records, and attendance up to date after each class. Prepare student evaluations with recommendations for staying at the current level or moving to the next level. Teach group and private lessons; maintain an uncluttered teaching area and return equipment to proper places. Relate with enthusiasm, patience, courtesy, tact, and concern to class members and parents. Attend and participate in staff/instructor meetings; perform other duties as required. Qualifications
Swim Instructor Basic: Must be 16 years of age. Outgoing personality; ability to relate to participants of various ages. Attentive, reliable, problem solver; positive mentality. CPR and First Aid completion cards. Obtain YMCA Swim Lesson Certification within nine months. Must be 16-17 years of age (per level) and have at least two years of experience. YMCA Aquatic Safety Awareness course may be substituted at the discretion of the Aquatic Director. Must have one swim lesson certification (YMCA or equivalent) and be able to answer questions with the association aquatics director. Copies of certifications and reference checks required. Swim Instructor Intermediate: Must be 17 years of age. At least two years of experience. Outgoing personality; ability to relate to participants of various ages. Attentive, reliable, and a proven problem solver; positive mentality. CPR and First Aid completion cards. At least two water instruction certifications; copies of certifications and reference checks required. Working Conditions
Must have the physical ability to meet all prerequisites for YASA Lifeguarding. Must be able to lift and move objects of 40 pounds or more. Swim 500 yards. Must be able to actively teach the YMCA swim program in the water. Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance. Benefits
