Overview

SMC Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a meticulous and proactive Payroll Specialist to join our growing team. The Payroll Specialist will report to the Assistant Controller. Duties include processing weekly payroll, verifying timekeeping records, resolving discrepancies, reconciliations, and generating reports. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, process-driven, and capable of managing sensitive data with confidentiality and precision. Base pay range

$31.00/hr - $36.00/hr Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Review and verify the accuracy of employee timesheets (exempt and non-exempt) and process time-sensitive data for weekly payroll runs. Oversee the entire payroll cycle, from gathering employee hours and data to calculating salaries, and processing wages, bonuses, and deductions. Handle payroll-related tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and other mandatory filings to ensure compliance with current tax and labor laws. Conduct audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies. Act as a point of contact for employees, answering inquiries about payroll, benefits, taxes, and deductions. Process monthly/quarterly multi-state withholding and SUI taxes, as well as garnishment and miscellaneous filings. Point of contact (POC) and liaison when implementing HH2 payroll processing. Generate and distribute weekly certified payroll reports. Identify and recommend process improvements for efficiency and control enhancements. Reconcile payroll accounts and support general ledger entries related to payroll. Support monthly financial close activities and reporting. Assist with A/P and A/R teams in processing as directed. Maintain and organize financial documents and records in accordance with internal controls and requirements as directed. Support the HR Director with the onboarding of new hires and assist with exit procedures. Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field such as Payroll, Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. 1-3 years payroll, accounting and/or financial administration. Strong skills in accounting software (Sage 300 CRE) and Microsoft Office software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to answer employee questions and assist with various processes. Attention to detail crucial for accurate data entry, record keeping and discrepancy resolution. Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential employee information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism. Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized records.
