Position Summary
The Department of Political Science at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for part-time affiliate faculty positions to teach introductory courses in political science. For more information about the department, visit:
https://www.msudenver.edu/political-science/ MSU Denver enrolls over 16,000 students, with nearly 60% being first-generation and over 55% students of color. Located in downtown Denver, we are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), an INSIGHT into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award winner for 10 consecutive years, and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. As the third-largest institution of higher education in Colorado with an open access mission, MSU Denver serves the most diverse undergraduate population in the state, including the highest numbers of first-generation and DACA students. Responsibilities Affiliate faculty may teach 3-9 credit hours of introductory courses in political science, covering areas such as American politics, comparative politics, international relations, law, public policy, and political theory, depending on expertise and departmental needs. Courses may be taught online or in-person, based on department requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: delivering course content, preparing materials, grading, providing timely and constructive feedback, addressing student questions, maintaining office hours, and complying with university policies on student evaluations and peer observations. Candidates should be adaptable to teaching in various formats (in-person, online, hybrid) and sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student body. Required Qualifications Master's degree or higher in Political Science or related field. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Political Science or related field (e.g., Public Administration, International Studies) Higher education teaching experience in Political Science Experience working with diverse populations, including students of color, LGBTQ+ students, low-income, first-generation, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, veterans, and English language learners. Terms of Employment Part-time, at-will employment on a per-credit-hour basis, usually semester-by-semester. Not eligible for university benefits. Teaching assignments depend on budget and enrollment.
