Job Summary This class administers the payroll operations of the College and performs a diverse range of payroll and personnel functions. Updated posting: 6/12/25; wage is $25.16/hour.

Responsibilities

Administers a variety of payroll processes and transactions, including: reviewing and preparing payroll runs to generate payroll checks, accounting reports, vouchers, check registers, payroll registers, and deduction checks; editing timecard details report against calculated pay; balancing deductions; processing garnishments; resolving errors; printing payroll checks; balancing check print totals; generating related reports; processing direct deposits and positive pays; calculating encumbrances; processing leave status and accruals; processing employee status changes; and related activities.

Initiates, processes, and reviews routine and/or specialized paperwork, forms, reports, and confidential information related to payroll and employment processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy; maintains related records. Responds to inquiries and requests for payroll information including employment verifications for external entities; researches questions and provides substantiating documentation and data; explains payroll practices and procedures to users and resolves discrepancies.

Compiles, prepares and submits a variety of reports and payments, including information for annual payroll audits and investigations; reporting and payments for State and Federal taxes; retirement vendors; workers’ compensation; and reporting for relevant departments and agencies.

Administers payroll related functions for new hire onboarding and employee exit processing, including maintaining confidential employee files, collecting and completing new hire documents, managing files, communicating final pay, benefits, and leave information to exiting employees, and disseminating forms for personnel and payroll changes.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Training and Experience Associate Degree or two-year technical certificate in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field, and at least two years of finance, accounting, payroll, and/or benefits experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.

Automated payroll processing software;

Basic benefit plan provisions;

Mathematical principles;

Customer service principles.

Time-management principles;

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Outlook, Word).

Using a computer and related software applications;

Performing mathematical calculations;

Composing business correspondence;

Interpreting and applying applicable laws, ordinances, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

Processing and reconciling financial documents and information;

Preparing, reviewing, and proofreading forms, reports and/or documents;

Maintaining records and files;

Reading, interpreting, and applying technical information;

Administering and maintaining confidential information;

Reading, comprehending, and applying language provisions of policies and contracts;

Operating modern office equipment;

Identifying and resolving problems;

Meeting strict payroll deadlines;

Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with coworkers, supervisor, auditors, and the general public.

Physical Requirements Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Some weekend and evening work may be required.
