Job Responsibilities
Performs moderately complex timekeeping and payroll functions. Assists with all payroll processing and timesheet review, and related payroll recording and reporting functions. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative and judgment. Processes payroll transactions in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures; researches critical transactions and recommends alternatives. Maintains appropriate payroll processing controls. Communicates with staff and external entities to research, explain, and resolve complex payroll, leave, tax, or retirement questions; ensures correct interpretation and application of laws and codes related to payroll operations. Processes payroll and verifies accuracy of hours to be paid. Assists with monthly overtime payroll, fiscal year-end leave conversion, and system access updates. Provides assistance to district and division time administrators and employees with payroll questions and issues. Assists with managing and clearing daily system exceptions. Assists with audits for on- and off-cycle payrolls. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's Degree in business, public administration, finance, accounting, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications. Experience : 1 year of experience in time and labor, payroll, accounting, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred. 2+ years processing payroll. Experience using PeopleSoft or similar payroll software.
Payroll processing and related reporting including 941, W-2, and 1099 processing Analyzing payroll projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines Time and labor, timekeeping, and related reporting Maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers
Abilities
Ability to adjust to changing workplace demands Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of state employees, taxpayers, and others
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lbs occasionally Sitting for prolonged periods Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers
