Overview Senior Director of Youth Development at Greater Somerset County YMCA. Somerset Hills YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA (GSCY), focuses on youth development through programs including School Age Child Care (SACC), Summer Camp, Early Education (Infants-PreK), Special Needs Programming, Enrichment in Arts & STEM, and Sports.

Responsibilities

Evaluate existing school relationships and expand the Y’s footprint in existing and new communities through SACC RFPs.

Guide the SACC Coordinator in hiring, mentoring, and developing SACC counselors and manage day-to-day SACC operations with prescribed goals/outcomes.

Attend Board of Education meetings to maintain relationships and identify opportunities for school engagement.

Manage participant registrations and monthly drafts; handle outstanding payments in a timely fashion.

Ensure SACC programs maintain safe, educational, social, and nurturing environments per YMCA guidelines and regulatory standards.

Develop new programs and generate ideas for growth and development.

Plan and execute Kids Day Out (KDO) full-day programming aligned with local school schedules.

Establish and sustain positive relationships with participants, families, prospective members, school personnel, boards of education, and licensing authorities.

Camp: Support the Program Director in leading summer camp programs, coaching staff, and developing innovative camp offerings; identify opportunities to expand camp footprint.

Co-lead accreditation efforts with the Program Director to ensure ACA standards compliance.

Support camp staff trainings, workshops, and youth development mentoring.

Enrichment (Arts & Humanities, Sports, Special Needs Programming): Supervise and develop the Program Director; oversee implementation of STEM, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Youth & Government, and special needs programming; ensure progressive programming with clear development goals.

Early Childhood Education Center: Supervise the Director of Child Care; ensure licensing compliance; assist with recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and directing staff; manage budgets and fee collection; maintain relationships with licensing and community partners; ensure records and reporting meet regulatory requirements.

Other duties: Lead department fundraising efforts, comply with YMCA policies, promote the YMCA mission, contribute to communications, participate in trainings and events, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Five+ years directing youth programming with focus on SACC, Summer Camp, and/or Early Childhood Education.

Experience building relationships with the public school system.

Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills; able to work with staff and members.

Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends based on program needs.

Excellent organizational, member engagement, staff development, administrative, and communication skills.

Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel and strong administrative abilities.

Education/Certifications: Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Recreational Programming, or related field; or a combination of bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment and other program-specific courses within 30 days of hire.

Ability to complete fingerprinting (CHRI) and child abuse prevention check (CARI) as mandated by New Jersey.
