Overview
Finance and Accounting Manager, Texas Engineering Executive Education at The University of Texas at Austin. The Financial Manager oversees all financial and accounting operations for Texas Engineering Executive Education (TxEEE), the self-sustaining continuing professional engineering education unit within the Cockrell School of Engineering. This role reports to the Executive Director and supports three professional engineering master’s programs, a suite of stackable graduate certifications, and a portfolio of open enrollment and custom short courses.
Responsibilities
Operational Support and Oversight:
Manage timely payment and procurement processing, tracking of deposits, invoices, procard vouchers and reconciliation, purchase orders, wire transfers, interdepartmental transactions, reimbursements, and contracts and service agreements. Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial regulations; develop and oversee risk management strategies.
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
Manage the annual budgeting process; prepare and review budgets for unit initiatives and external proposals; monitor financial performance against budget and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Collaborate with TxEEE leadership and Cockrell’s BAO to prepare actionable financial statements, reports, and analyses; ensure accuracy and timely delivery; translate financial data into insights for decision-making.
Account Oversight and Reconciliation:
Monitor account balances, expenditures, and encumbrances; oversee account reconciliations; request new accounts as needed.
Team Leadership and Development:
Supervise and develop finance staff and assigned student workers; foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Infrastructure and Facilities Support:
Assist with facilities space allocation, physical inventory, records retention, and electronic scanning/archiving functions.
Other related functions:
As assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and five years of responsible level experience in finance, accounting and/or budgeting; or Master’s degree and two years of above experience
At least five years of management experience within a large organization
Ability to prioritize, manage concurrent projects, and maintain high accuracy and attention to detail
Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities and organizational skills
Robust analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable information
Ability to meet overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal, oral communication, and writing skills
Ability to work independently and in a team; maintain confidentiality and discretion
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic environment and familiarity with engineering programs; more than five years of administrative work experience
Accounting/financial experience at UT Austin or a university environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, UT accounting applications, including DEFINE, MISHELL, FRMS, Workday, Docusign, Smartsheet, and Quickbooks
Knowledge of UT policies and university organization and resources
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $70,000+ depending on qualifications

Standard office conditions with a mix of sitting and standing
Regular hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with flexible arrangements; periodic evenings/weekends may be required
