We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges,our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be working as part of the Mechanical Handling team specifying requirements for material handling equipment, treatment and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and/or issues resolution of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in mechanical handling design and specifications and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Mechanical Handling diagrams, Mechanical Flow diagrams, Mechanical Drawings and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements. Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. Major Responsibilities:
Plans and conducts independent mechanicalwork requiring judgment in the evaluation,selection, application and adaptation ofmechanical engineering techniques,procedures and criteria on a medium sizeproject or assignment in support of a globalbusiness unit Leads the design, development, modificationand evaluation of mechanical componentsand processes utilizing relevant EngineeringDepartment Procedures (EDPs), designstandards and guides, and Bechtel StandardApplication Programs (BSAPs) Coordinates and interfaces as directed. Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule and support PEM/PE/EGS in creating schedules that align with project/program. Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Quality Culture in day-to-day work activities. Communicates complex technical issues andrecommends solutions to uppermanagement Supports preparation of estimates, staffingneeds and schedules Prepares or oversees the preparation ofdiscipline estimates and work plan inaccordance with project scope, schedule andbudget, and supports implementation andassists with performance reporting Mentors mechanical engineering personnelby providing on-the-job training for theirprofessional development Support the procurement of equipment by developing procurement packages, reviewing quotations and evaluating them technically, review of vendor submittals and resolution of technical issues during the procurement of mechanical equipment. Perform in a highly collaborative environment where all team members participate in resolving design challenges. Requires a bachelor\'s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills:
Must be authorized to work and remain in the United Stateswithout Bechtel visa sponsorshipnow or in the future. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drugscreen, physical (if located at the construction site), andbackground check which includes verification of employmentand education.
