Overview Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary In this role, you will be working as part of the Mechanical Handling team specifying requirements for material handling equipment, treatment and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and/or issues resolution of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in mechanical handling design and specifications and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Mechanical Handling diagrams, Mechanical Flow diagrams, Mechanical Drawings and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements.

Part-Time Telework : This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities

Plans and conducts independent mechanical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit

Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)

Coordinates and interfaces as directed. Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule and support PEM/PE/EGS in creating schedules that align with project/program. Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Quality Culture in day-to-day work activities.

Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management

Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules

Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting

Mentors mechanical engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development

Support the procurement of equipment by developing procurement packages, reviewing quotations and evaluating them technically, review of vendor submittals and resolution of technical issues during the procurement of mechanical equipment

Education And Experience Requirements Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge And Skills

Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)

Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of variable factors

Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products.

Familiar with the process of resolving complex engineering issues and development of innovative solutions.

Working knowledge of SolidWorks and capable of generating engineering quality models and drawings.

Perform in a highly collaborative environment where all team members participate in resolving design challenges.
