Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Lead Pastor First Christian Church of Phillipsburg
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Topeka, Kansas, United States
Overview
First Christian Church of Phillipsburg, Phillipsburg, KS Ours is a non-denominational, evangelical, credobaptist church averaging roughly 100 people in attendance on Sundays. The church began in 1893 as part of the Disciples of Christ, but left that denomination in the last decade because of its unfaithfulness and liberalism. For the last 15 years, the church has held to basic evangelical doctrine. The church would be somewhat of a revitalization for a man with thorough reformed convictions, needing continued guidance and shepherding into sound doctrine and practice. Church structure and doctrine
The church is congregational, led by a plurality of male-only elders (although we have had female elders in the past, that is an area where our understanding of the biblical qualifications laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 has become sharper, and we understand eldership and preaching to be the role of men as qualified by Scripture). Currently we have a church board, deacons, deaconesses, and trustees. The church is not confessional, but is eager to continue being led according to God’s Word. We have been going through the Westminster Larger Catechism’s questions and answers on prayer, especially the Lord’s Prayer, and have really appreciated that. Our church has people in it from many different church backgrounds. In our area, our congregation has become a sort of refuge for theologically conservative, Bible-believing Christians who want to hear Christ preached. Qualifications and role
We are looking for a man who meets the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, is committed to preaching Christ crucified, who is committed to evangelical doctrines such as Penal Substitutionary Atonement, and who is competent to shepherd God’s flock as a lead pastor. How to apply
If you meet these qualifications and would prayerful consider taking part in the work here, you are welcome to email your resume to Beth, who is organizing our pastoral search committee meetings, at fcc.beth25@gmail.com. Tagged as: lead pastor
