The Sr. Manager, Engineering and Maintenance is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing maintenance, reliability, risk management, automation, and engineering within the facility, excluding the Central Engineering/Capital Management function and those resources assigned to the Casting and Fab East organizations. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of plant assets by leading cross-functional teams in areas such as central maintenance, predictive maintenance, reliability engineering, automation and controls, utilities, project maintenance, fire systems, and support shops. The role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and long-term asset integrity. Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategies for maintenance and engineering excellence aligned with plant and corporate goals. Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel. Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement. Oversee operation and maintenance of plant utilities including compressed air, water, and electrical systems. Ensure fire protection systems comply with standards and are maintained properly. Manage automation systems and process controls design, implementation, and maintenance. Utilize predictive technologies to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Coordinate with stakeholders and contractors to implement improvements. Manage central machine shops and fabrication areas supporting plant maintenance and engineering. Ensure availability of critical spares and timely repairs. Manage contracted services and external vendors, especially in unionized environments. Navigate labor agreements and union protocols while ensuring compliance and collaboration. Balance internal workforce capabilities with outsourced solutions for cost and efficiency optimization. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required). CMRP certification (preferred). 15+ years of engineering experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing settings. 7+ years in leadership or managerial roles, preferably in the aluminum or metals industry. Strong knowledge of reliability engineering, fire protection, automation, and utilities. Experience managing large teams and complex projects in union environments. Deep understanding of reliability principles including RCM, TPM, and predictive maintenance. Proficiency in root cause analysis, FMEA, and asset lifecycle management (preferred). Experience with CMMS systems and reliability KPIs (preferred). Knowledge of industrial fire protection systems and NFPA standards (plus). Background in industrial automation, PLCs, and HMI systems. Experience with system integration and troubleshooting automation equipment (preferred). Experience with energy management systems (preferred). The Ravenswood plant in West Virginia employs approximately 1,100 people and is one of the world's largest rolled products facilities, producing plates, sheets, and coils for aerospace, defense, transportation, marine, and industrial sectors.
