Director of Nursing – Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
Location: Portland, Maine
Organization: Orthopaedic Associates of Maine

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine (OAM) is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and accomplished RN leader to join Maine’s premier orthopaedic team and shape the future of surgical care delivery in a top‑tier, patient‑focused environment.
About the Role: As the Director of Nursing, you will be the cornerstone of our clinical leadership—responsible for the oversight of daily operations, patient care excellence, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and quality/performance improvement programs. You will lead and mentor a dedicated team of professionals in a collaborative, state‑of‑the‑art surgical environment that values innovation, accountability, and patient‑centered care.
What You’ll Do:
Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for ASC nursing staff and operations
Champion AAAHC, AORN, AAMI, and APIC standards and best practices
Drive initiatives in quality assurance, patient safety, infection prevention, and performance improvement
Maintain continuous regulatory compliance and preparedness for audits/accreditation
Collaborate with surgeons, executive leadership, and the broader care team to enhance the patient experience
Supervise scheduling, staffing, and professional development of all nursing personnel
Monitor clinical outcomes, evaluate trends, and lead QAPI activities
Contribute to capital planning, budgeting, and vendor evaluation/contracting
Serve as a key leader in emergency readiness, environmental safety, and compliance
What We’re Looking For: Required:
RN License (Active and in good standing)
BLS and ACLS Certification
Minimum 3–5 years perioperative nursing experience
Prior experience as a Director of Nursing in an ASC setting
3+ years of leadership/management experience
Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Proven experience with supply chain and operational oversight
Preferred:
BSN degree
CNOR certification
AAAHC survey experience
Background in managing budgets, regulatory reviews, and staff development
Experience managing a healthcare operation
