Overview MRI Technologist – Lisle

Position Highlights :

Full-Time; 40 Hours

Hours: M-F 12:30am-9:00pm. Two weekend days per month from 7:30am-4:00pm. Holiday and Travel as needed.

Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, with the primary responsibility of completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist. This includes performing routine MRIs and MRAs, taking accurate verbal patient histories, and starting IVs to administer IV contrast. Maintain a positive imaging environment for patients and act as a patient liaison to the radiologist.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist. This includes performing routine MRIs and MRAs, taking verbal patient histories, starting IVs, and administering IV contrast.

Perform quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.

Ensure proper MRI safety standards are met.

Ensure all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of the scan room.

Explain correct emergency shutdown procedures.

Demonstrate fire and safety evacuations.

Check patient transfer/transport equipment to ensure safe operation.

Operate equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI protocols.

Complete necessary protocolling tasks.

Perform ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.

Properly identify patients (three unique identifiers).

Introduce to the patient by name and role title.

Explain procedures in layman’s terms using educational/informational aids when necessary.

Allow time for patient feedback and questions before exam start.

Verify completion of MRI screening forms and validate information.

Start IV access according to standard procedure and administer contrast under physician direction.

Select appropriate IV site according to exam protocol.

Choose proper catheter or needle and perform venipuncture following standard precautions.

Select and prepare correct IV contrast and amount according to protocols.

Set and monitor injection parameters according to guidelines.

Record injection amount, IV location, and flow rate on the correct documents.

Generate QA documentation (QR reports) when infiltration or reaction occurs.

Prepare and position patient for the procedure using MRI protocols to achieve high-quality images.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited MRI education program.

ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.

BLS – Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.

Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop, reach overhead, and perform repetitive motions.

Repetitive motion: keyboard use.

Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs.

Manipulate MRI coils/table and accessory equipment.

Reach equipment at heights greater than 6 feet.

Assist in moving patients from stretcher, wheelchair, or bed to and from MRI table.

Adequate eyesight to observe patient condition and read MRI computer screens; evaluate image quality.

Sufficient hearing to respond to patient inquiries.

Ability to communicate with other care team members.

Initiate timely responses to audible alarms and signals.

Ability to multitask and maintain composure under stress.

Compensation: The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $32.65-$49.00, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
