Associate Behavioral Health Director

to join our

West Berkeley Health Center .

As the Associate Behavioral Health Director, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care in a outpatient setting, working closely with families to promote positive mental health and well-being. You will also have the opportunity to build collaborative teams with other healthcare professionals and community partners. As the ideal candidate, you will have experience providing therapy and possess strong clinical and administrative supervision skills. About us: As a Federally Qualified Health Center in Northern California with over 45 years of dedicated service to the community, LifeLong serves over 66,000 patients in the East Bay Area's socio-economically underserved regions. We provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and school-based services at more than 15 primary care sites across Oakland, Berkeley, and West Contra Costa County. From opening a residential respite program for homeless persons discharged from hospitals to offering free COVID testing to the community, we are innovative and responsive to our times' social and medical needs. Benefits: Compensation: $101,000 - $126,000 + $12,500 stipend ,

depending on years since licensed,

$5,000 sign-on bonus , and excellent benefits: medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, dependent and domestic partner coverage, 403(b) retirement savings plan, and loan repayment programs, and commuter benefits. LifeLong qualifies for federal and state loan repayment programs

(HPSA score is 16).

Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive psychosocial assessments, mental health diagnoses, treatment plans and implements short-term counseling using appropriate modalities for patients with issues such as: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, addiction, domestic violence, behavioral health problems, and psychosocial stressors.

Provides short-term case management services for patients participating in treatment.

As a team member, assists with crisis intervention and triage as needed. Crisis intervention includes assessment, de-escalation, and notifying the public mental health crisis response team if necessary.

Works with team members to provide follow-up assessment and prevention planning after any crisis, including follow-up with outside agencies.

Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with contractual and billing requirements

Follows all State of California mandated reporting requirements.

Provide clinical and administrative supervision to all members of BH team, including: All Licensed therapists on team; All Associate therapists on team; BH CHWs; Recovery Support Counselors; Perinatal Behavioral Health Coordinators (effective January 2023)

Coordinates annual chart review process for all therapists on team

Coordinates and delivers all annual reviews for all members of BH team

Provide supervision hours to Associate therapists on team and complete all required BBS forms (unless accommodations have been made for another licensed therapist to provide clinical/BBS supervision)

Be available for clinical and crisis consultation from BH team and clinic staff

May be asked to provide clinical support/consultation to case managers on staff, where applicable

Works collaboratively with psychiatry providers onsite on clinical and workflow issues

Acts as co-leaders with Associate Medical Director and Center Director in developing the site’s integrated care model

Participates in clinic/site leadership meetings with AMD and CM

Creates workflows for BH team in clinic/site, in coordination with agency-wide efforts

Acts as the voice of BH at clinic/site staff and provider meetings

Manage patient grievances by investigating, communicating with patient, coordinating with site leadership to write up response

Interviews, hires, onboards new therapists and BH CHWs at site

Orients new medical and psychiatry providers to BH team/referrals/workflow

Plans and facilitates BH team meetings

Participates in monthly BH Team Leads meetings

Participates in and supports site and organizational DEI efforts

Leads BH QI efforts at site level, including developing model of care and implementing PDSAs

Works with BH Clinical and Operations Director, CD, and AMD to develop and monitor clinic/site budget for BH team

Monitors productivity and talks with individual team members about productivity, and advises adjustments in templates as needed to achieve productivity goals and manage patient access

Works with BH CHWs and RSCs to appropriate triage all BH referrals in clinic in timely manner

Consults with medical providers on patients with behavioral health concerns

Reviews and responds to patient clinic transfer requests when patient has BH involvement; coordinates with BH lead at other clinics

Consults with LMC Legal Director re: any legal/consent issues that arise for BH team

Reviews medical requests from patients requesting BH records; addresses as needed

Qualifications

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), LPCC, LMFT (limited sites), PsyD, PhD preferred or ASW, AMFT(limited sites) registration with the California Board of Behavioral Science.

Demonstrated skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders.

Experience with individual and group modalities, crisis intervention and staff education and training.

Strong commitment to working with a low-income, ethnically diverse patient population.

Strong knowledge base in mental health and psychosocial issues particular to clinic’s client population.

Completes BBS supervision training requirements when eligible

Education and Experience

Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree

Experience in supervision of social service support staff

Experience in a publicly funded mental health program, community health center, and/or socialservice agency serving the clinic’s client population preferred.
