Overview

Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Associate Director of Institutional Research. The Associate Director will use a broad knowledge of assessment, computing, strategic planning, student management, and statistical and education research methods to support campus decision makers with concise, relevant, clear and accurate data. The Associate Director reports to and supports the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research within the Office of Institutional Research (IR). While located in the Academic Division of the College, IR supports colleagues across Kenyon.

Responsibilities Coordinate IR work in support of external data requests (e.g., U.S. News, CDS) with accurate and timely reporting.

Respond to external surveys and data reporting requests, including extracting data from institutional databases for standard and ad hoc reporting (internal and external).

Support academic departments with survey and data support during decennial external reviews, measured by the department’s ability to supply reviewers with substantive data.

Support academic departments in the annual assessment process, measured by the presentation of annual assessment findings.

Participate in annual work reviews.

Prepare quantitative and qualitative analyses and write reports; design and administer surveys; analyze and report survey data.

Develop and conduct research studies in response to institutional needs; serve on and support committees on a variety of topics.

Promote appropriate use of institutional and survey data to serve the broad needs of academic and non-academic units.

Assist other College offices in institutional-level planning and measurement; collaborate across the institution to apply data and research to address institutional concerns.

Guide the professional development of student interns and supervise or assist in supervising student interns.

Collaborate on projects with colleagues within and outside the Institutional Research office, including IR student interns.

Qualifications At least a bachelor’s degree in social science, educational assessment, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A master’s degree in these fields, or equivalent experience, is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement research studies of varying complexity; knowledge and proficiency in social science/education research methodology (quantitative and qualitative); experience in designing and conducting surveys and analyzing and presenting survey data.

Interest in and preferably some experience with intern professional development.

Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and writing skills; high computer literacy, including at least one statistical software package (SAS, SPSS, Stata, R) and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in institutional research, education measurement, or assessment; ability to balance multiple tasks, manage competing priorities, and complete assignments on time with high quality and accuracy.

Some experience with online survey research tools and using SQL for querying databases is desirable.
