The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice nurse who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions for patients of the NCH Physician Group. The APP works in collaboration with the APPs, management team, peers, and staff to advance nursing and promote the development of an evidence-based professional practice environment. Further, the APP works under the approved and agreed protocols signed by the supervising NCH Physician Group physician. The APP works to continually improve clinical outcomes, facilitate throughput, and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Communication with Administrative/Clinical Staff.
The APP is expected to develop an active communication strategy with the medical and other staff, to keep them informed about requirements regarding the conduct of their work. In so doing, the APP will work under the approved and agreed protocol signed by their supervising NCH Physician Group physician who will oversee all aspects of patient care delivered by the APP. Organizational and Medical Ethics.
The APP is responsible for defining, focusing, and resolving problems in collaboration with the APP’s assigned physician as well as other members of the clinical and administrative staff. Strategic Planning:
The APP, in conjunction with the Senior Leadership of the NCH Physician Group is responsible for participating in the development of their practice’s strategic plan, including long and short-term goals and objectives. The strategic plan will be evaluated annually, and the results reported to the NCH Physician Group’s Board of Directors through the Chief Medical Officer. Performance Improvement:
The APP is responsible for following the performance evaluation program created by the Quality of Care Committee. APP Recruitment:
The APP is responsible for facilitating the recruitment of high-quality APPs and other professional personnel for the NCH Physician Group. Contracting:
The APP is responsible for delivering medical care in a manner that is consistent with the terms of managed care and insurance contracts into which NCH Physician Group enters. Litigation:
The APP is responsible for assisting the NCH Physician Group administrative team prepare for and respond to all litigation in which it is involved. Clinical Responsibilities:
The APP is responsible for providing leadership for all the NCH Physician Group’s patient care activities. These responsibilities include the following specific elements. Philosophy of Care:
The APP is responsible for exemplifying in personal and professional conduct, the clinical and administrative tone that emanates for the philosophy of care and thus sets the tone for all the professional and administrative staff. Performance Improvement:
The APP is responsible for assuring that the NCH Physician Group’s Medical Services are run in a manner that preserves, fosters and improves the integrity and quality of the clinical programs. This includes participating in NCHHG programs of performance improvement with the goal of clinical excellence and improved patient outcomes, ensuring standards for accreditation and regulatory reviews, and documenting assessments and activities to ensure high-quality operations. Support of Clinical Operations
Fostering high quality and efficient clinical operations within NCH Physician Group. Participates in the supervision of medical support staff (e.g., LPN and Medical Assistant) who work in support of the APP’s practice. Participates in the design, development and implementation of clinical programs to provide clinical care efficiently and effectively. Participates in the oversight of medical services and clinical procedures to ensure appropriateness, quality and integration with the clinical program. Participates in activities and programs to ensure effective, sufficient, and efficient clinical staffing. Participates in committee or work group activities as reasonably requested by supervising physician Chief Medical Officer. Works to ensure the effective protection and implementation of the patients’ bill of rights. Provides direct patient care when necessary for patient well-being. Serves as liaison to the medical staff to convey matters of medical importance to the Board of Directors.
Problem Solving:
The APP is responsible for resolving immediate clinical problems affecting patient care. Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and programs to identify the needs of the clinical and administrative staff to correct knowledge or skill deficits and support ongoing professional development. Represents NCH Physician Group in the community through interviews, lectures, organized consultation, and other appropriate activities. Strategic Planning:
The APP is responsible for actively developing long-range strategies to ensure future clinical and economic success of the NCH Physician Group, including short-term and long-term planning. Marketing Plan:
The APP should be involved in the development and implementation of an ongoing marketing plan and provide guidance on its effectiveness, including public engagements that support this work. Clinical Marketing:
The APP helps develop and implement a program of clinical marketing to support community education and appropriate referrals. Managed Care:
Enhance awareness and collaboration with a managed care environment. Participate in managed care negotiations as needed. Assist in responding to appeals, denials, and key payer communications. Remain educated on developments in care management. Carry out other duties to meet clinical and administrative needs.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited school of nursing and completion of an advanced practice or nurse practitioner program. Minimum of clinical experience with strong teaching skills and ability to facilitate organizational change. Board Certification in area of specialty required; board-eligible candidates considered with commitment to certification within 6 months of hire. New graduates must be certification-eligible on employment and obtain certification within 6 months. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider in the State of Florida. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 3 months of hire. Completes all NCH yearly competencies within the allotted timeframe. Maintains professional licensing requirements. Continued education requirements to practice as an Advanced Practice Provider. Intermediate computer knowledge: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
