We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced
Structural Engineer
looking for a unique challenge. This role will not require design work but will revolve around the review of existing designs for renovations and new builds. Under general supervision of a Senior Structural Engineer, the Structural Engineer evaluates and reviews designs, drawings, and specifications for new buildings/structures and for renovation projects. Serves as a point of contact for construction projects regarding applicable state building codes, local and federal laws. This position also performs duties as follows:
Duties Include:
Review schematic designs, design development, construction documents for new buildings, other structures, and renovations for general design quality control to identify errors, omissions, inconsistencies, conflicts, and interdisciplinary coordination. Conduct drawing and specification review to ensure construction documents are compliant with applicable building codes, as well as local, state, and federal laws. Prepare written comments describing ambiguities; can also provide redlines to describe inconsistencies and errors in construction documents, drawings, and specifications. Make recommendations for additions, deletions, and substitutions when modifications are necessary. Conduct or participate in project-related meetings concerning design and construction documents with Architects, Engineers, and other project stakeholders. Under supervision, conduct on-site reviews of structural components and report findings. Conduct follow-up with Design Professional of Record to resolve any issues discovered to protect the interests of the State and ensure compliance with applicable codes and laws. Review plans and specifications and report any recommendations or inconsistencies with generally accepted engineering and design principles. Conduct training seminars and provide technical and professional expertise to staff and other personnel. Independently review complex projects in an expeditious manner. Coordinate review workflow between the various disciplines within the department, i.e., Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection, required to provide a complete review of project documentation. Perform forensic analysis and Building Assessments and provide written reports and recommendations when requested. Participate in industry-related training and/or conferences to maintain required credentials and increase knowledge, skills, and abilities. Facilitate a teamwork environment by mentoring; participating in and/or conducting training on industry-related topics; to share knowledge and ensure open lines of communication throughout the organization. Stay abreast of current developments and products within the industry. Must work assigned days and hours. Required:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a structural focus. PE 4 plus years in structural design, construction document preparation, and review for commercial, municipal, or similar buildings. Preferred:
Plan review experience for local municipalities or state governments. Master's degree in structural engineering.
