Position Details

The Medical Director of University Health Services (UHS) serves as a senior leader within Penn State’s ambulatory health care center for students, providing strategic oversight and clinical leadership for all medical services. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of UHS, the Medical Director guides a multidisciplinary team of over 60 clinical professionals, including 13 direct reports, to deliver high-quality, student-centered care. This position functions as a mentor, consultant, and leader for physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, and ancillary staff. The Medical Director champions evidence-based, clinical excellence, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and ensures alignment with best practices in quality assurance and patient satisfaction. The role also serves as a key liaison to the broader Penn State community and local medical partners, collaborating with campus stakeholders (Counseling and Psychological Services, Health Promotion and Wellness, Residence Life, and Student Care and Advocacy) to support holistic student wellness. The Medical Director partners with UHS Community Health to shape the clinical content of educational outreach and public health initiatives. Operationally, the role works with financial and administrative leaders, including Revenue Cycle Management, Information Technology, and the Assistant Director for UHS Operations, to ensure efficient, effective, and student-focused healthcare delivery. Responsibilities

Provide strategic oversight and clinical leadership for all medical services at UHS. Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, and ancillary staff; support a culture of evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and local medical partners to support holistic student wellness and public health initiatives. Partner with UHS Community Health to shape educational outreach and clinical content. Coordinate with financial and administrative leaders to ensure efficient, effective, and student-focused healthcare delivery. Education, Experience, and Certifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree; license eligibility in Pennsylvania; Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration; and Board Certification in a primary care specialty (family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics) preferred. Managerial experience in a healthcare organization leading multidisciplinary teams within a shared management model; understanding of college health; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; collaborative approach to healthcare. Minimum Education and Experience: MD or DO; 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience. The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $215,600.00 - $334,200.00. Penn State provides a competitive benefits package for full-time employees, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, holidays, and sick leave.
