The Collector Appeal Specialist is responsible for accurately processing inpatient and outpatient claims to third-party payers and private payers, adhering to all billing guidelines. Responsibilities include timely filing, quality control checks on claims, processing tracers, denials, appeals, and composing appeal letters for challenging denial issues, aligned with the latest American Medical Association CPT standards. The role requires professionalism, good communication skills, and maintaining productivity and quality standards. Essential Duties
Analyze billing procedures based on financial class, insurance type, and program specifics. Obtain necessary documentation, verify accuracy, and submit claims electronically or via hard copy, ensuring confidentiality and compliance. Follow up on insurance claims, facilitate payments, and document activities. Manage adjustments, transfers, refunds, and reconcile credit balances, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and policies. Maintain detailed records in billing systems, document claim statuses, and communicate effectively with payors and internal teams to resolve issues and optimize collections. Ensure adherence to productivity and quality standards, review accounts for delinquency, and provide guidance on coding and billing practices. Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in meetings and training sessions. Perform miscellaneous tasks and support other areas as needed. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent Experience in medical collections across various payors, with knowledge of applicable laws and policies Excellent communication skills and familiarity with medical terminology and reimbursement procedures Proficiency in computing environments and support for servers, networks, and workstations Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience with medical collections and billing systems such as IDX, or equivalent education/experience Licenses/Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days of hire, maintained thereafter The hourly rate range is $25.00 - $39.69. USC considers various factors in employment offers including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
