The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District comprises 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving over 21,000 students from Pre-K to 12th grade, with 77% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% served by the Office of Special Education, and 78% students of color. JOB DESCRIPTION: The ENL Humanitarian Liaison will support the Department of ENL, World Languages, and Bilingual Education in building capacity to meet the needs of ENL students and newly arriving refugee and immigrant families. The role involves assessing and addressing the academic, social-emotional, physical, and mental health needs of refugee and immigrant children and their parents, with a focus on social-emotional health and wellness initiatives. The liaison will provide trauma-informed practices training for staff, develop social-emotional learning opportunities for students and parents, and serve as a bridge between families, school staff, and the community. REPORTS TO:

Director of ENL, World Languages and Bilingual Education DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a resource for staff on refugee resettlement and trauma-informed practices Develop and deliver professional development on ENL/SEL topics Collaborate with community supports to stay informed about resources and initiatives Work with school-based support personnel on student and family adjustment plans Assess and address needs of refugee families, including physical, mental health, and case management Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: Proven success in helping ELL students achieve academically Experience with ELL family engagement Ability to research and secure resources for ELLs and their families High integrity and commitment to the SCSD mission Experience in professional development Culturally responsive learning environment experience Positive character traits: organized, consistent, understanding Flexible, entrepreneurial spirit, willing to go above and beyond Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills Excellent attendance record Training/experience with Culturally Relevant Education preferred Must pass background check (cost to candidate: $101.75) City Residents are encouraged to apply! SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Meet NY State Department of Education requirements for Social Worker Ability to work beyond the ten-month school year and student day Minimum three (3) years' experience in school social work Preferred: experience with refugee/immigrant families and trauma-informed practices Preferred: knowledge of and experience with special education SALARY/SALARY RANGE: Starting at $53,000 for SCSD Teachers. Salary may increase with proven experience and transcripts per the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
