COORDINATOR, CLINICAL RESOURCE- Education — Westchester Medical Center Health Network. The Clinical Resource Coordinator is a health care professional who provides staff orientation and ensures nursing staff competence. The Coordinator accomplishes this through assessing, organizing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the practice standards in the assigned units in collaboration with the Unit Managers. The individual assumes direct teaching responsibilities for all levels of personnel, both professional and non-professional, as well as patients and their families on their assigned units. Responsibilities

Orientation:

Provides orientation to all newly-hired nursing staff. Assists with the orientation of newly-promoted or transferred nursing staff. Revises unit specific orientation program content based on evaluations, departmental needs, and regulatory agency mandates. Assesses the learning needs of newly-hired nursing staff. Plans clinical learning experiences for newly-hired nursing staff based on identified needs. Coordinates the orientation process for nursing staff on assigned units. Plans and assists in development of unit specific competencies. Evaluates effectiveness of orientation and makes revisions as needed. Education:

Plans, develops and presents evidenced-based educational programs in response to periodic needs assessments. Completes CEU packet. Updates/prepares teaching outlines, self-learning modules, learning worksheets, and other teaching aids based on evidenced-based research. Collaborates with Nurse Manager in preparing a unit specific annual education calendar to meet unit needs. Performs Grand Rounds and MD lectures. Evaluates learning outcomes of educational activities. Reviews and revises educational programs based on program evaluations. Designs annual competency program based on state, regulatory or hospital requirements. Communicates competency validation compliance to managers in a timely manner. Assists in patient teaching when indicated. Covers Diabetes Directions and Infection Control departments. Monitors use and operation of audio/visual equipment and other materials for educational purposes. Participates in developing and coordinating hospital community education programs. Consultation:

Serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff. Provides input and recommendations in the development of nursing standards, policies and procedures. Authors new standards, policies and procedures that are evidenced-based. Serves as a mentor and identifies/report issues related to quality patient care. Serves as a consultant in the preparation of manuals, guides, and other materials essential for promoting quality patient care and safety. Participates in developing and implementing hospital performance improvement initiatives. Provides input into the review and revision of Education Department policies. Management Support:

Facilitates product evaluation/analysis with staff, physicians and vendors. Provides recommendations to the Nurse Manager related to the evaluation of newly-hired staff. Recommends new products based on evidence-based research. Serves as a liaison between the Education Department and other units as needed. Professionalism:

Exemplifies high standards of nursing practice through role modeling, facilitating and mentoring. Maintains national certification by an accredited professional organization and participates in hospital committees as an education representative. Attends educational programs to remain current in areas of specialty. Maintains American Heart Association instructor status. Fiscal:

Develops educational programs based on available financial resources. Identifies grant opportunities and alternative financial resources that support education. Completes and submits grant applications. Other:

Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in clinical specialty. Demonstrated leadership skills; team builder, superior communication skills. Prior teaching experience. Education:

Masters Degree in Nursing or Education preferred. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or health-related field required. Licenses/Certifications:

Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in NY State. ACLS/CCR N preferred (Urgent Care); TNCC, PALS preferred. ACLS preferred (Medical Surgical Nursing). AHA Instructor required. Special certification in appropriate field. Other:

If applicable, exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials; universal precautions and infection control policies; demonstrated competence in clinical specialty area; demonstrated understanding of adult teaching/learning principles; meets Employee Health Services requirements.
