The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. The Afghan Newcomers Support Program (ANSP) Caseworker provides trauma-informed services to Afghan immigrants, facilitating a smooth resettlement and acculturation process while supporting clients in achieving self-sufficiency. This role involves working collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders to develop and implement individualized service plans tailored to each client’s unique needs and preferences. The Caseworker connects clients to a comprehensive range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other supportive services in alignment with program requirements and client eligibility.

Major responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive intake assessments to identify client needs and develop individualized service plans with clear goals and timelines.

Provide client-centered support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy, including workshops, one-on-one counseling, and referrals for public benefits, employment, affordable housing, childcare, and financial literacy.

Monitor client progress to ensure achievement of established goals, address challenges, and maximize resource utilization.

Collaborate with the Casework Supervisor to assist Afghan migrants in securing affordable housing and navigating the housing market.

Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of client interactions in compliance with program requirements. Input client data into case management systems and support reporting processes as needed.

Establish and maintain effective partnerships with local service providers, fostering collaboration to enhance service accessibility for clients.

Develop and distribute linguistically and culturally appropriate materials outlining resettlement services, immigration support, public benefits, social services, educational opportunities, and community resources.

Utilize a personal, insured vehicle and/or public transportation to facilitate client transportation and service delivery as needed.

Provide guidance, training, and oversight to volunteers and interns supporting program activities.

Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives and client success.

Job Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience:

Relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 2 years’ experience strongly preferred. Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations required.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively. Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired (including Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto). Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes. Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle; ability to drive an IRC passenger van.

Working Environment Standard, professional office environment, with a current hybrid mode of remote work within Los Angeles and required in-office days and some field time within the service delivery area to perform the above responsibilities. Office working environment is subject to change based on organization needs.

Compensation and Benefits Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
