Senior Tax Specialist
An established and growing organization is seeking an experienced
Senior Tax Specialist
to join its tax group. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex tax compliance, provision, and research activities while collaborating with finance and operations leaders across the business. Role Overview The Senior Tax Specialist will be responsible for managing the preparation, review, and analysis of federal, state, and local income tax matters. The position will also support tax accounting, provision calculations, and compliance initiatives while helping to strengthen processes and controls. Primary Responsibilities Lead and review the preparation of federal, state, and local income/franchise tax returns and estimated payments. Oversee and review tax workpapers, including schedules for depreciation, amortization, and apportionment. Perform tax research and prepare written analyses on a variety of compliance topics. Monitor and ensure compliance with tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions. Review and contribute to quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations. Maintain and enhance internal controls related to tax processes and filings. Support accounting for income taxes, including ETR (effective tax rate) and deferred tax computations. Prepare and review transfer pricing documentation and related journal entries. Manage tax reserve calculations and documentation. Partner with cross-functional teams within Tax, Finance, and Operations to drive initiatives. Utilize tools such as OneSource Tax Provision, Oracle, HFM, Excel, Alteryx, Power BI, and others to improve efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with strong accounting knowledge. CPA designation or advanced degree is preferred. 3+ years of experience in corporate tax or public accounting. In-depth knowledge of federal and state/local income tax concepts, compliance, and planning. Experience with tax research, analysis, and related software tools. Skills & Competencies Strong written and verbal communication skills. Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities. Highly organized, proactive, and deadline-oriented. Ability to work effectively with leadership and external auditors. Proficient in relevant tax technology and financial systems. Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
