The Opportunity We are seeking a Director of Accounting to lead Oakwood Creative Care’s financial operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and sustainability while actively contributing to strategic planning as a member of the senior leadership team.
The Director of Accounting will oversee all aspects of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis, working closely with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, and program leaders to ensure sound financial decision-making that supports our mission.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis.
Manage the general ledger, financial transactions, and fund accounting practices.
Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll administration.
Oversee grants, contracts, and restricted funding to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.
Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Partner with leadership to support resource allocation, funding strategies, and organizational planning.
Provide timely, accurate financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
Lead annual audits, tax filings (IRS Form 990, 1099s), and ensure compliance with GAAP/FASB standards.
Supervise and mentor finance department staff.
Promote a positive, mission-driven culture within the organization.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, and nonprofit fund accounting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel power-user required) and Quickbooks Online.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise fiscal responsibility.
