Managing Consultant – Air Quality & Environmental Compliance

Your Role:
Lead and manage strategic air permitting and compliance programs for industrial clients, addressing complex technical and regulatory challenges. Build strong client relationships to understand operations and tailor permitting strategies that maximize flexibility.
Serve as a liaison with local regulatory agencies to guide permit applications through to approval.
Oversee project teams across regions, delegating tasks effectively and mentoring junior team members.
Support the growth of ERM’s EPCRA Reporting Program through collaboration and strategic input.
Offer expert regulatory advice on intricate TRI (Toxics Release Inventory) and EPCRA applicability, calculations, and reporting for both team members and clients.
Analyze operational and environmental data at facilities, manage and clean large data sets, and support accurate threshold and release calculations.
Manage several large-scale projects simultaneously, ensuring they meet scope, budget, schedule, and quality benchmarks.
Conduct QA/QC reviews on emission and EPCRA/TRI calculations across industries like chemical manufacturing and oil & gas refineries.
Provide compliance support, which may include site visits, and ensure timely delivery of accurate reports and documentation.
Foster client relationships to drive repeat business and expand ERM’s sustainability consulting services.
Develop proposals and participate in client development efforts.
Build internal networks and strengthen collaboration across ERM teams.
Your Background: Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent work experience.
Strong familiarity with chemical nomenclature, reaction processes, SDSs, and chemical identification.
Extensive experience in preparing, reviewing, and auditing EPCRA Tier II and TRI calculations is essential. Must demonstrate high attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations, with an ongoing commitment to understanding evolving compliance standards.
Preferred experience with air emissions calculations, including emission factors and control technologies.
Minimum 4 years of EHS consulting experience in sectors such as manufacturing, oil & gas, power, chemicals, or mining.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills (data cleanup, complex formulas); experience with PowerPoint, Power BI, and Access is advantageous.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record in technical reporting and data interpretation.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, working independently and meeting tight deadlines.
Willingness to travel as needed for client engagements.
