The Department Department of Counseling. Temporary Faculty Position (Lecturer). The 60-unit graduate program offers two M.A. degree options: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The program emphasizes field experience and class-based training; typical class size is 24 and there are about 80 majors. Accreditation details: M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is MPCAC-accredited (Sept 2022–Sept 2030); School Counseling program re-accredited by the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing in 2020. Duties of the Position To teach graduate level courses within the Master’s Degree (M.A.) Counseling Program in the Department of Counseling at Sonoma State University in alignment with the School Counseling and/or Clinical Mental Health Counseling tracks.

Qualifications School Counseling Criteria:

Earned Doctorate in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, or Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited institution preferred; Master’s degree in related field accepted.

California Pupil Personnel Services credential in School Counseling, or equivalent.

School counseling experience.

Ability to articulate a theoretical orientation about school counseling.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multicultural populations.

Ability to handle delicate and difficult counseling issues with students.

Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level (preferred).

Experience relevant to School Counseling MA program or related core courses (preferred).

Ability to supervise practicum and internship students if considered for Practicum or Field Experience/Internship.

Core and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Criteria:

Earned Doctorate in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, or Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited institution preferred; Master’s degree accepted.

Eligibility for clinical licensure in California (MFT, PCC, or Licensed Psychologist) preferred.

Clinical/counseling experience with diverse populations and interventions.

Ability to teach at the university level, preferably graduate level.

Experience with courses related to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program and core courses (multicultural, research design, assessment, etc.).

Ability to supervise practicum/traineeship or internship if considered for these courses.

Ability to articulate a theoretical orientation about Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Ability to work with diverse, multicultural populations.

Knowledge of empirical/quantitative and qualitative methods, program evaluation, and statistics if considered for COUN 513.

Ability to handle delicate and difficult counseling issues.

Rank and Salary Full-time workload is 15 units per semester; actual salary depends on units, education, and funds. Temporary appointments are part-time and semester-by-semester. Salary details include:

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.

Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 – $6,677 per full-time month.

Full-time base salary prorated to the number of units; paid in six monthly payments per semester.

Temporary Faculty appointments are contingent on department needs and funding.

Relocation expenses not provided for temporary appointments; interview expenses not reimbursed.
