Overview
Development/Community Relations Director role for the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota. The director provides leadership and executive direction for development, public relations, and marketing of the Congregation, integrating development, communications, and grant-writing within the Community Relations/Development (CRD) department as it works within the FSLF structure and the Church and civic communities served. Is creative and organized in overseeing the publication of internal communications and the Our Journey magazine. Is capable of managing and prioritizing multiple simultaneous projects and tasks. The director provides leadership and executive direction for the development, public relations, and marketing of the Congregation, integrating development, communications, and grant-writing within the CRD department as it works within the FSLF structure and the Church and civic communities served. Overview of Responsibilities
Know and demonstrate the Franciscan Values: respect, open communication, hospitality, and compassion in all job functions; demonstrate these values with sisters, staff, volunteers, donors, visitors, and the public. Uphold and fulfill the mission and philosophy of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls in all communications and public relations, whether written, spoken, or observed. Create and implement a comprehensive development program to secure the resources needed to support the mission and ministries. Be proficient in Donor Perfect with ability to receive and enter donation data, generate thank you letters, and financial reports. Manage annual and ongoing donor activities (Memorial Appeal, Christmas Appeal, Donor Day, Give to the Max, food fundraisers, special events, major appeals) in consultation with the COO. Oversee internal communications publications, including Community News, and publish Our Journey magazine in collaboration with the editor and graphic designer; contribute as writer/editor/proofreader. Oversee management of the FSLF websites and social media in coordination with staff and outside vendors. Supervise CRD staff to ensure a respectful and efficient work environment. Consult with the COO to set Community Relations goals aligned with development and communications needs; report monthly on CRD activities to the COO and Leadership Council. Develop, implement, evaluate, and update Community Relations policies and budget with COO and CRD staff. Coordinate and evaluate all FSLF public relations activities to maintain message continuity and the organization’s image. Participate in FSLF meetings as requested and practice inclusive leadership within mid-level management and CRD. Facilitate monthly CRD all-staff meetings and other meetings as needed. Meet regularly with Major Gifts/Planned Giving Coordinator to cultivate donor and grantor relationships. Collaborate with CRD staff, COO, Leadership, and ministry personnel to explore funding opportunities. Research corporate, foundation, and individual granting possibilities; prepare LOIs, grant applications, and case statements; maintain grant files and timelines. Prepare reports and annual information for budget and statistics for annual report; maintain confidentiality of donor information and finances. Engage with the civic community to raise the FSLF’s visibility and involvement; maintain memberships in appropriate organizations. Attend meetings as required and demonstrate a leadership style that supports collaboration and teamwork within the department. Travel as needed to meet donors and attend events; valid driver’s license required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, or related field; master’s degree preferred. Certifications in fundraising a plus. Experience in planned giving, major gifts, direct mail, events, memorials, and grants. Proven expertise in fund development, strategic planning, and project management. Strong leadership, collaborative, and initiative-taking abilities; team player with shared decision-making. Ability to articulate development and communications recommendations to write and implement a strategic plan. Excellent verbal and written communication; persuasive writing skills. Public speaking skills to effectively convey the mission and needs of FSLF. Strong organizational, detail-oriented, time management, and critical thinking skills. Personal integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical principles. Knowledge of Catholic fundraising and culture preferred or willingness to learn. Experience with sound financial practices, including budgeting and fundraising analysis. Computer proficiency with email, internet, office software, and donor databases. Willingness to travel to meet donors and attend meetings/events; valid driver’s license required. Performance Requirements
Physical Demands : Multifacted office management, meeting attendance, computer use, and travel; driving ability required. Aptitudes : Ability to work in a multi-faceted team, communicate with donors and staff, manage budgets, and represent the organization publicly.
