The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina is seeking applicants for an Open Rank position with a focus on Neuroscience. The area of emphasis is flexible as long as the candidate’s research falls broadly within the scope of neurobiology of language, cognition, and communication disorders.

Please apply here : https://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/194630 The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders invites applicants for an assistant/associate/full, tenure track, full-time (9-month) faculty position in neuroscience. The faculty member will be responsible for developing and maintaining an independent, extramurally funded program of research within their area of expertise and to maintain a teaching load of one course in the first year, and two courses per year thereafter. The individual will share research space within the Department and contribute to service to the Department and University and in their field. The Department hosts an active and collaborative research faculty and clinical faculty, with existing strengths in child language and literacy, dysphagia, aphasia, neurodevelopmental disorders, hearing loss, cochlear implants, voice, multilingualism, and neurodegenerative disease. We offer a low teaching load to support faculty in developing and maintaining their research programs. The Department is housed within the Arnold School of Public Health, which hosts a highly active and interdisciplinary research community, with over $59 million in extramural funding garnered in 2024. The Carnegie Foundation ranks the University of South Carolina as a “very high research activity” institution (R1). We share the University of South Carolina’s commitment to access and collective engagement overall, and our Department is specifically committed to increasing access and opportunity for all people in the field of speech-language pathology. Evidence of our Department’s ongoing commitment to this important objective includes: (a) our faculty has established a fellowship to financially support students from backgrounds that are under-represented in the field, (b) faculty, staff, and students have been participating in formal and informal instruction to further develop an inclusive environment that spans research, teaching, and service endeavors, and (c) an Access and Opportunity Committee comprised of students, staff, and faculty members that continually seeks to promote learning and responsiveness among all individuals affiliated with the Department. A PhD or equivalent research doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related discipline (e.g., Neuroscience, Linguistics, Psychology, Education) is required. Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor must also have demonstrated evidence of high-quality scholarly research, the potential to successfully compete for external research funding, teach graduate-level courses, and collaborate with other researchers, including clinical researchers. Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor must be accomplished scholars with years of experience in research, teaching, and service commensurate with academic policy and: 1) a substantial publication record in top-tier journals, 2) a record of securing research grants from national and international funding agencies, 3) a history of successful graduate student supervision, and 4) the leadership skills necessary to mentor junior faculty and students, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the university.
