Overview
Assistant Professors (TT) in Biomedical Engineering — multiple tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level (associate possible based on qualifications). Appointment expected to begin September 1, 2026. Opportunities are strong for candidates with a clinical/translational focus and potential collaboration with UMass Chan Medical School, and with local hospitals in the Boston and Springfield areas. Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field or anticipate such a degree by August 31, 2026. Candidates should demonstrate potential for scholarly excellence and the development of an externally funded research program, and maintain an internationally recognized scholarly presence. Teaching responsibilities include existing undergraduate and graduate courses in the curriculum and the development of new courses in the area of expertise. Areas of Interest
Positions are defined broadly within biomedical engineering. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: devices, hardware, and instrumentation for biomedical applications; artificial intelligence (AI) applications in BME and biomedical imaging; biomedical engineering applications in women’s health. Other research areas are welcome. The department expects to teach and contribute to both undergraduate and graduate courses and to develop new curricula as appropriate. The Department of Biomedical Engineering at UMass Amherst has 14 full-time faculty members, about 60 graduate students, and 370 undergraduates. Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field by August 31, 2026. Demonstrated potential for scholarly excellence and external funding, and ability to teach existing courses while developing new ones in the candidate’s area of expertise. Salary
Salary for the academic year (9 months) is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range is typically between $79,350 and $131,123. Details will be determined by the University if an offer is extended. Application Instructions
