Overview
Assistant Professor in Computer Science — Tenure/Tenure-Track. Location: Sonoma. Department: Engineering & Computer Science. Starting August 2026. Faculty Responsibilities
In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the University, profession, and community. Responsibilities include advising students, participating in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively with colleagues, and participating in traditional academic functions. The department supports undergraduate research and other professional opportunities for students. Faculty are expected to foster the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025 through excellent teaching, advising, and mentoring. Review the University\'s Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion Policy. During the first two years of the probationary period the instructional assignment will be reduced by two courses per academic year to support research, scholarship, and/or creative activities and assist in meeting retention, tenure, and promotion requirements. All faculty must work effectively in a multicultural environment. Duties of the Position
The successful candidate will teach computer science courses across the Bachelor of Science curriculum, offer upper-division electives in their areas of expertise, demonstrate potential for a sustained research career, and actively foster an undergraduate research program. Collaboration with industry professionals and seeking external funding are encouraged. Teaching excellence is essential. In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in academic advising, assist the department with program revision, and serve on departmental, College, and campus-wide committees. The Department offers a BS in Computer Science with 250 majors and a CS minor. Teaching excellence, mentoring, and expanding participation from underrepresented groups are emphasized. The department supports close collaboration between faculty and students on research and software projects with research and industrial applications. To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have: a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field, completed by August 2026 a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarship a commitment to working as part of a team and educating a diverse student body Note: Candidates for this position are not eligible for tenure on hire and may receive at most two years of service credit towards tenure. These conditions are non-negotiable. All research areas will be considered. Candidates should be able to teach a broad range of courses across the computer science curriculum. Rank and Salary
Service credit depends on academic preparation and professional experience. Anticipated salary range: $95,000 to $105,000. Required Application Materials
