System Safety Engineer II – Responsibilities
Assisting with and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
Performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400)
Assisting with analysis of engineering hardware and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
Working with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place
Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
Provide creative solutions to maximize safety functionality without impeding critical performance
Responsibilities to Anticipate
Assist with design of concise, testable safety requirements or providing safety analysis of existing requirements
Assist with performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
Collaborating with other disciplines during program technical execution
Interfacing with key stakeholders (e.g., customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
Assisting in preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
Assisting with briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
Reviewing and interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards
Assisting in preparation of internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 2 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
Experience with Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. US citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
Experience with system and software safety implementation in Agile Development environment
Experience interfacing with Human Systems Integration showcasing execution of Human Factors Engineering tasking involving MIL-STD-1472
Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
Familiarity with Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards, System Safety Working Groups
