The
Peer Support Specialist, Enhanced Adult Mental Health Services (EAMHS)
provides a variety of recovery-oriented services to individuals enrolled inearly intervention and transition age youth programs who have self-identifiedas desiring peer supports. The PeerSupport Specialist works, to promote greater independence, communityintegration and recovery. Services provided by peers (people who have had theexperience of mental health treatment and have certification in Peer Support)include a wide variety of supports, services and advocacy that contribute to aclient's ability to engage in ongoing treatment and work towards lessdependence on traditional mental health treatment. These activities acknowledgethe importance of involving significant others and other natural supports inthe persons treatment that could positively impact their recovery. Location:
This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's Rockwood site. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Uses a Person-Centered approach to createand work on a Peer-Assisted Wellness Recovery Plan tailored to the specificneeds of the individual receiving services. Uses his/her own experiences as guided bytraining and also models the principles of recovery for those they work with,including gaining greater independence, emphasize wellness andself determination. Assists the persons they work with toidentify and utilize natural community supports to decrease dependence on thetraditional mental health system. Work with clients to develop wellness andrecovery goals towards what the client wants for their lives. Present a model of someone in recovery andshare their own experiences as their training provided guidance. Work with clients on specific and obtainablegoals included in the person's ISSP. Provides support to clients who are havingsymptoms that could result in hospitalization.Duties could include grocery shopping, meal preparation or just spendingtime with clients until they feel secure enough to be on their own Assists clients in accessing communityresources such as food boxes, healthcare appointments and other services asappropriate. Assists clients in maintaining medicationcompliance. May deliver medications,makes reminder calls and home visits to ensure compliance. Maintain confidentiality of records relatingto clients' treatment. Meets standards as defined in thePerformance Evaluation for client care, quality/customer service,attendance/punctuality and teamwork. Educate and advocate for the values andprinciples of Peer Delivered Services and the Recovery Model. Completes Service Activity Logs (S/AL's) ona timely basis. Qualifications: Requirements are representative of minimumlevels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.To perform this job successfully, the employee will possess theabilities or aptitudes to perform each task proficiently.) Self-identifies as a current or formerrecipient of mental health services Holds a Peer Support Specialistcertification from a State-approved training program. Demonstrate effective communication skillsand ability to provide culturally-competent treatment services to diverseclient populations. Familiar with developmental needs of adults. Transporting clients in a personal vehiclemay be required. Requires valid driver's license, proof of current automobile insurance coverage and verification of safe driving record from DMV.
