TLC provides individualized learning support for PreK4-8th grade students enrolled in KIPP DC schools, delivering a small, safe, and supportive learning environment with a 3:1 student-to-adult ratio to meet students’ academic, behavioral, and adaptive needs.

Instructional Responsiveness & Content Knowledge Internalize and teach challenging and engaging lessons linked to Common Core and informed by instructional data Internalize and teach lessons aligned to student’s IEP and monitor progress toward mastery of goals Perform clerical duties related to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc. Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings
Individualized Education Program (IEP) Case Management Serve as a case manager for students with IEPs on your assigned caseload Create and update Student IEP One-Pagers; progress monitor IEP goals Complete and distribute quarterly Progress Reports; ensure mandated accommodations Collaborate with related service providers; attend IEP Team Meetings; complete required documentation; close out documentation in the special education database Collaborate with the student support team regarding school-based special education referrals Work with Related Service Providers and Mental Health Practitioners to develop interventions
Care of Students & Classroom Culture Build a classroom culture that empowers students and affirms identities Implement school-wide and classroom management policies Create a responsive and inclusive environment for parents and families Follow TLC’s PBIS plans to ensure consistency Practice de-escalation strategies with Crisis Response Coordinators
Other Information & Requirements On-duty hours: teachers may be on site 7:30 am–5:00 pm two days a week and 7:30 am–4:00 pm three days a week; instruction runs 8:00 am–3:30 pm Perform clerical duties as required Morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned Pass all required background check requirements under applicable law Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year (e.g., field trips, open houses, conferences, home visits). We will communicate with notice and flexibility.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Required) At least two years of experience in Special Education and working with IEPs (Required) Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to quality educational opportunities (Required) At least one year of teaching experience in a public school or education degree with student teaching experience (Strongly Preferred) Experience/strength in content area (Preferred) Compensation & Benefits

Teacher salaries are exempt and start at $65,500 and increase with years of experience. Please see the salary scale for details. Teachers can earn up to $5,000 in renewal add-ons to their base salary each year they return to KIPP DC. KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; various voluntary benefits; and employer-paid benefits such as short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and a One Medical membership. KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years. Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, and scheduled breaks; exact schedule shared in offer letter. Public transit benefits: WMATA pre-tax transportation deductions are available.
