R103713**Summary:** The Sociology Department at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a Sociologist of Gender and Sexuality to begin in Fall 2026. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field. Successful applicants will teach and develop courses in the Sociology of Gender and the Sociology of Sexuality, as well as introductory-level courses at the Valley Campus. They will also be expected to engage in ongoing research and service activities, including acting as a liaison between the department and the LGBT Resource Center and the Center for Women and Gender Equity at the university. Successful candidates must be able to effectively connect with students, colleagues, and community members from diverse backgrounds and experiences. **Required Qualifications and Education:*** A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field. Current ABD candidates will be considered for a two-year contract if they complete their Ph.D. by December 2027.* Demonstrated ability to successfully teach college-level courses in the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality, as well as introductory-level classes such as Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems.* Demonstrated active or ongoing scholarly activity in the discipline.* Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility. **Preferred Qualifications and Education.*** Demonstrated experience with effective teaching of the Sociology of Gender, the Sociology of Sexuality, and introductory-level sociology classes.* Demonstration of an active research agenda in the discipline.**Responsibilities:** Tenure-line faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are typically hired on nine-month contracts, with a nine-credit-hour teaching load per semester. They are also expected to engage in scholarly/creative activity, service, and significant focus, which is equivalent to three credit hours of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and/or service, depending on the successful candidate’s interests and the department’s needs. Successful candidates will be expected to teach introductory-level courses in the Sociology of Gender and Sociology of Sexuality, maintain an active/creative presence in the discipline, and serve as the liaison between the department and the LGBT Resource Center and the Center for Women and Gender Equity at Grand Valley State University. **Minimum Starting Salary:** $67,592; commensurate with experience.**Benefits:** , including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver, effective on date of hire. **Department:** The Sociology Department at Grand Valley State University represents a wide range of specialized interests and disciplinary expertise.
