This role may overlap with systems and software engineering disciplines, and requires advanced knowledge of cybersecurity principles. You'll gain hands-on experience across all areas of avionics cybersecurity, using cutting-edge modeling and simulation tools to evaluate cyber risk and design mitigation strategies across the product lifecycle. Technologies you'll work with may include cyber AI, machine learning, penetration testing (white, grey, and black box), and cyber range testing.
What You'll Do
- Lead the development, design, testing, and certification efforts for avionics cybersecurity systems.
- Perform cybersecurity risk assessments and generate mitigation reports using advanced methodologies.
- Support and document compliance with regulatory cybersecurity requirements.
- Develop cybersecurity requirements and controls, and support the development of vulnerability mitigation plans.
- Collaborate across engineering teams to recommend design modifications that meet cybersecurity standards.
- Conduct and support penetration testing in response to customer requirements.
- Explore emerging technologies (AI, machine learning, blockchain) to develop new cybersecurity capabilities.
- Contribute within an Agile SCRUM team environment.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems, Software, Electrical, Computer, or Cybersecurity Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Cybersecurity Compliance or equivalent work.
- Experience working with cybersecurity for safety-critical products (Aerospace, Automotive, Medical Device, etc.).
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (must be authorized to work in the U.S. and eligible to work on government programs; visa sponsorship is not available).
- 3+ years of experience developing avionics systems.
- Familiarity with DO-326A and DO-356A (or ED-202A / ED-203A equivalents).
- Knowledge of DISA STIGs and NIST cybersecurity controls and policies.
- Experience with programming languages like C, C++, and Python.
- Comfortable working with Linux OS and scripting.
- Experience with airborne device authentication, embedded cross-domain solutions, and tactical crypto key management.
- Working knowledge of aircraft systems (avionics, flight controls, mission systems).
- Experience with the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- Familiarity with security analysis techniques like attack trees, threat modeling, tabletop exercises, digital signing, and software authenticity.
- Experience using modeling and simulation tools.
- Active participation in aerospace cybersecurity groups, industry forums, or working groups is a plus.
