Overview
The Technical Arts Production Assistant supports the artistic and technical execution of theatrical productions, concerts, and events across all divisions of St. Margaret’s Episcopal School. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth behind-the-scenes operations, with responsibilities spanning lighting, sound, scenic construction, stage management, and equipment maintenance. A high level of technical skill, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset are essential to success in this role. The ideal candidate has experience working in K–12 school environments and is comfortable supporting student learning and engagement through hands-on technical theater applications. Strong organizational skills, attention to safety, and the ability to multitask across multiple venues and projects are critical.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Educational and Collaborative Support — Work alongside faculty and students in technical theater classes and afterschool programs; provide instruction and guidance to students during productions, fostering a safe and educational environment; collaborate with faculty and division leaders to align technical support with educational goals and creative vision; support coteaching opportunities in technical arts classes where appropriate.
- Technical Operations and Production Support — Assist in the planning, setup, and execution of lighting, sound, video, and scenic elements for school performances and events; operate and maintain technical systems and equipment for theaters, black box spaces, and multiuse venues; support rehearsals and performances with stage management, cue calling, and technical troubleshooting; construct, paint, and strike scenery as needed, ensuring safe practices in all technical areas.
- Equipment and Facilities Support — Maintain organization and functionality of technical theater spaces, including the Performing Arts Center, black box theater, and storage areas; track inventory and support maintenance schedules for lighting, sound, and scenic equipment; ensure compliance with safety protocols and conduct regular inspections of all technical gear and tools.
- Community and School Engagement — Engage respectfully and professionally with students, professional community, and families in support of schoolwide events; model professionalism and uphold the school’s core values in all interactions and activities; support crossdivisional events and performances, contributing to the school’s vibrant arts culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required — High school diploma required.
- Minimum of 23 years of relevant experience in technical theater production.
- Demonstrated experience working with K12 students in an instructional or production capacity.
- High level of technical proficiency in lighting, sound, and stagecraft systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills and a student-centered, team-oriented approach.
- Preferred — Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in technical theater, production, or a related field.
- Experience coteaching or supporting technical theater instruction.
- Familiarity with ETC lighting consoles, QLab 4 and 5, and CAD and design software, and digital audio systems.
- Experience in scenic carpentry, rigging, and audiovisual integration.
- Ability to safely operate welding equipment and perform basic welding tasks as needed.
- Welding certification.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Hourly Range: $24.00 $29.00
- 40 hours/week, 12 months/year

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights using catwalks and lifts. Candidates must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods. Evening and weekend work is required during production periods and performances.
