HOUSEKEEPING ATTENDANT at NAVY EXCHANGE SERVICE COMMAND (NEXCOM)
Location: United States-Virginia-Dahlgren. Schedule: Part-time (20 - 34.5 hours).
Job Summary
Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property including, but not limited to: cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, etc. Services include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, cleaning, removal of debris/trash, transporting clean and dirty linen/towels, and related tasks. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment in connection with performing duties.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas. Operates cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, waxer, polisher). Empties wastebaskets, dusts, waxes and polishes room furniture. Cleans walls, partitions, air vents, disinfects and deodorizes toilet bowls and lavatories. Wipes windows, cleans ceilings, changes light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Moves furniture to clean under and behind; uses step stools to clean windows and treatments; cleans bathroom areas including tub, tile, walls, commodes, floors and vanity. Cleans kitchen area including stoves, ovens, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets and floor. Washes and disinfects dishes, utensils and cookware.
- Cleans and replaces luggage racks; ensures presence of appropriate hangers and amenities in rooms. Ensures TVs are clean and programmed, alarm clocks are set, and in-room phones are functioning.
- Places proper number of amenities in room, replaces bed linens, inspects mattresses and pull-out sofas. Moves or re-positions beds as needed. Greets and welcomes guests, maintains outstanding guest relations. Maintains privacy and security of guests.
- cleans, vacuums and mops corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios and balconies. Shampoo rugs/carpets and polish rails on stairways. Completes scheduled carpet cleaning with industrial equipment.
- Performs deep cleaning as required by program standards (e.g., pet-friendly rooms, ADA service animal rooms). Includes tasks such as defrosting refrigerators, window cleaning, carpet shampooing/spot treatment, walls cleaning.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of storage rooms. Communicates status of cleaned spaces to supervisor via daily assignments or property management system.
- Accomplishes minor repairs and maintenance of equipment; reports major repair/replacement needs to supervisor. Cleans exterior spaces such as parking lots and outside walkways. May load/unload trucks, assist with receiving supplies, and move heavy items using hand trucks. Uses common hand tools as needed.
- Responsible for pass keys and returns them at end of shift. Reports unusual circumstances (e.g., no luggage in stay-over, vacancies, unauthorized pets).
- Reports lost and found items to housekeeping supervisor with room or area details. May assist with breakfast bar setup/breakdown and replenishment; ensure area is returned to original state. May be required to obtain appropriate food handling certifications.
- Completes required safety and security training. Maintains a clean and safe environment and follows NHG protocols. Performs laundry operations at the facility. May require a valid state driver’s license to travel to other facilities. May be required to obtain NHG housekeeping certification within 6 months of employment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
No Experience Required; High School Graduate or Equivalent Preferred. Physical requirements include moderate physical effort moving furniture and using hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment.
