Overview

Come lead with us at Houston Methodist West Hospital. At Houston Methodist, the MRI Technologist II position is responsible for a variety of routine to complex diagnostic MRI procedures to include common and special MRI exams of high difficulty. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. The MRI Technologist II serves as a mentor to MRI Technologist I and students by utilizing skills and knowledge to help train and educate others. This position works independently by exercising sound judgment and executing above-average clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and patient care situations. The MRI Technologist II provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special MRI procedures and delivers exceptional patient care while adhering to MRI exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. Responsibilities Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused unit. Collaborates with the patient care team by communicating and reporting pertinent patient information clearly and comprehensively.

Mentors MRI Technologist I and students to build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities; supports department goals for retention and employee engagement.

Maintains open, professional communication to promote mutual understanding and quality service during every patient encounter.

Performs diagnostic MRI procedures, including common and special exams, using MRI technology to produce images and assist in clinical decision-making.

Assesses and responds to patient needs to optimize care, image quality, and experience; adjusts positioning, preparation, and technical factors as needed and recognizes potential complications.

Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special MRI procedures, including sterile technique where required.

Explains instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level using clear verbal and non-verbal communication.

Quality/Safety Follows safety standards and maintains sterile techniques; complies with safety policies and infection control procedures.

Identifies opportunities for quality and safety improvements; reports near misses and errors to improve processes.

Ensures imaging equipment quality control is performed and equipment is in safe working order; reports malfunctions and arranges service as needed.

Supports department safety initiatives and standards of practice.

Finance Documents procedures accurately and enters charges at the time of service.

Uses resources efficiently and manages time to prioritize daily tasks.

Growth/Innovation Participates in special projects and department initiatives; pursues continual development and maintains an individual development plan (IDP).

Fosters a positive teaching environment for MRI Technologist I and students aligned with business objectives.

Education Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).

Work Experience Three years of experience as an MRI Technologist.

Licenses and Certifications - Required BLS – Basic Life Support (or Instructor) (AHA)

One of the following:

ARRT-MR – Radiologic Technologist – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT)

ARMRIT – Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist

CMRT – Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist – State Licensure

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies to safely perform the assigned job; participates in ongoing skills and performance evaluations.

Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English relevant to patient safety and job duties.

Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and coworkers with a customer-service focus.

Ability to work independently and handle challenging diagnostic procedures; demonstrates sound judgment and clinical skills.

Basic computer knowledge; operates hospital/Radiology Information Systems and office software.

Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork; delivers excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.

Adapts to multiple priorities with minimal supervision and participates in problem-solving.

Working Conditions and On-Call On-call may be required during emergencies.

May require travel within or outside the Houston Metropolitan area as per department needs.
