The MRI Technologist II position is responsible for a variety of routine to complex diagnostic MRI procedures, including common and special exams of high difficulty. This role is a member of the direct patient care team, fully competent in all aspects of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams, and serves as a mentor to MRI Technologist I and students.

Guide and mentor MRI Technologist I and students, fostering confidence in skills and knowledge.

Facilitate open, professional communication to achieve mutual understanding and provide the highest quality service during every patient encounter.

Service Essential Functions

Perform diagnostic MRI procedures, including common and special exams.

Proactively assess, identify, and respond to patient needs to optimize care, image quality, and experience.

Assist physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including sterile technique.

Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions

Follow safety standards and conduct imaging procedures accordingly, maintaining proper sterile and aseptic techniques.

Identify opportunities for corrective action, process improvement, and contribute to department and hospital quality targets.

Ensure imaging equipment is properly maintained, performing QC and reporting malfunctions.

Assist with implementation and education of safety initiatives and standards of practice.

Finance Essential Functions

Provide accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enter charges at the time of service.

Use resources efficiently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.

Growth/Innovation Essential Functions

Participate in special projects, initiatives, or shared governance activities and seek opportunities for continual development.

Maintain an individual development plan and foster a positive teaching environment.

Education

Graduate of an educational program approved by the credentialing body, with required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.

Work Experience

Three years as an MRI Technologist.

Licenses And Certifications – Required

BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)

One of the following: ARRT‑MR, ARMRIT, or CMRT (Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist – State Licensure)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated competency in safely performing assigned job duties through ongoing assessments.

Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for patient and employee safety.

Effective communication with patients, physicians, and colleagues, emphasizing customer service.

Independent work capability, handling challenging procedures with sound judgment and advanced clinical skills.

Basic computer knowledge; operate hospital and office software, maintain patient records.

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, delivering excellent customer service.

Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision and participate in problem‑solving.

Supplemental Requirements

On-call: Yes. Employees may be required to be on-call during emergencies.

Travel: May require travel within and outside Houston Metropolitan area.
