Overview
Assistant Professor position in the MIT Department of Chemical Engineering, Cambridge, MA. The department invites candidates for tenure-track faculty positions starting 07/01/2026, or on a mutually agreeable date thereafter. Appointment will be at the assistant professor level; in special cases, an untenured associate or senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a related field by the start of employment. Research and teaching interests in all areas relevant to chemical engineering will be considered, including chemical and electrochemical catalysis and reaction engineering; computational and molecular modeling; biomanufacturing, bioprocess engineering, or applied synthetic biology; process systems engineering and energy systems; biomedical engineering and advanced technologies for health and the environment, sustainability; and materials design and engineering. All strong candidates in chemical engineering fields are encouraged to apply. Faculty duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising students, conducting original scholarly research, developing course materials for graduate and undergraduate levels, and participating in service to MIT and the profession. Teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Advise students and supervise research activities. Conduct original scholarly research and publish results. Develop course materials at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Engage in service to MIT and the profession. Qualifications
Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a related field by the start of employment. Research and teaching interests aligned with chemical engineering disciplines, including but not limited to catalysis and reaction engineering, computation/modeling, biomanufacturing/bioprocessing, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, sustainability, and materials design. Compensation and Resources
The successful candidate will receive a generous start-up package with excellent laboratory and office space and access to MIT core facilities. Pay for a 9-month appointment at the entry-level Assistant Professor rank ranges from $140,000 to $150,000 (base pay; excludes summer salary). Compensation will be based on factors such as scope of responsibilities, experience and training, internal equity, and applicable legal requirements.
